This year has seen one of its biggest shake-ups yet, as Grand Theft Auto 6 has officially been delayed until 2026. Before the delay was announced, Grand Theft Auto 6 was expected to arrive this fall, but it looks like the wait will have to be just a little bit longer.

There's still good news, though. Just a few days after announcing the delay, Rockstar released the long-awaited second trailer for GTA 6, and it looks packed with drama, action, and even romance. Now that there's a new trailer to spend hours picking apart, GTA 6 feels more real than ever. Rockstar's long-awaited crime-filled game was anticipated to be the biggest competition of 2025, but now the titles scheduled for 2026 will have to be careful with their release dates.

Now That GTA 6 is Set for 2026, Next Year is Set to Be a Massive Moment for Gaming

2026 Already Has A Lot to Offer Beyond GTA 6

  • Saros
  • Onimusha: Way of the Sword
  • Fable
  • The Duskbloods

Of course, this year is currently filled with more major AAA releases than next year, but there are still plenty of games that have yet to be announced. Fable was also supposed to come out this year, but was pushed back at the beginning of 2025. A brand-new Onimusha chapter has ignited excitement, while Saros promises a mind-bending roguelike mystery. Also, The Duskbloods has been one of the most surprising announcements this year. Developed by FromSoftware and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, The Duskbloods is an exclusive multiplayer title for the Switch 2.

Right now, there is plenty of room on the calendar to spread out these games in a way that makes competition less fierce than this year, but it's still a compelling lineup. No matter what year the game releases, GTA 6 is bound to be on top, but there are plenty of promising single-player competitors, apart from The Duskbloods' multiplayer approach. Beyond the current 2026 lineup, there is also another highly-anticipated game that could turn next year on its head.

GTA 6 follows couple Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as they work to better their lives in Vice City.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Still Has Yet to Reveal a Release Target

  • The first and only trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6 was released back in 2018.
  • Since then, Bethesda has kept quiet on its progress.

When it comes to two games that have been anticipated for years, GTA 6 and The Elder Scrolls 6 are at the very top of the list. Granted, it's more likely that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still years away, but there's the possibility that Bethesda has a surprise up its sleeve.

Such a reveal could be a pipe dream, but if Bethesda were to announce The Elder Scrolls 6 for 2026, it would set the stage for a massive gaming face-off. Back in 2021, reporter Tyler McVicker tweeted that he didn't expect The Elder Scrolls 6 until 2026 or 2027. It's important to note that this is purely speculation and any claims about the game should be taken lightly, but McVicker also stated that Starfield "needs another year or two," which was correct, since the sci-fi RPG launched in 2023. A lot could have happened between now and 2021 with The Elder Scrolls 6's development, though, so there still might be a longer wait than hoped for.

GTA 6's confirmed locations include Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga.

GTA 6 is Set to Bring Vice City Back Into the Spotlight

The new trailer for GTA 6 is the best look gamers have gotten of the new Vice City yet. As the year continues, it will be exciting to see just how much more Rockstar reveals, if it all. Before 2025 is up, though, there may be even more exciting game announcements on the horizon.
