Grand Theft Auto 6 may release around 2025, according to Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings report, but not much is known about the game just yet outside of gameplay leaks and rumors about its possible protagonists. Sources from Rockstar Games, a Take-Two Interactive division that develops the GTA franchise, stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 will have two protagonists with a story that may be inspired by the infamous bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde. If this is the case, the game’s ending could be as good as confirmed.

According to rumors, one of the protagonists will be a Latina woman; gameplay leaks also show playtesters using a female character. As such, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be the first installment in the franchise to feature a woman as a playable character, which is long overdue. According to leaks and rumors, the game will also be set in fan-favorite Vice City, which is inspired by the city of Miami. It would be interesting to see a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde story in the colorful and lively streets of Vice City, as the real-life crime duo did their spree during the 1930s across the Central United States.

Grand Theft Auto 6’s Ending Could Involve The Death of the Bonnie and Clyde Protagonists

Grand Theft Auto 6's Online Component Will Miss A Key Feature

Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chestnut Barrow had a larger-than-life story. They were notorious for being the country’s public enemy, as they robbed banks, small stores, and even funeral homes across rural America. They may have killed over four civilians and nine police officers during their exploits, according to the FBI. Judging by their rap sheets, these two are the perfect inspiration for heist games like Grand Theft Auto. Fans might end up playing a married couple on the run from police for high-level theft and even murder.

If GTA 6 does go all-in on the Bonnie and Clyde story, then the game’s ending may be clear. Those who are familiar with the story of the couple will know that they were shot to death in a police ambush in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. As such, the protagonists of Grand Theft Auto 6 might meet the same fate.

The franchise has played around with the idea of killing its main characters in previous installments and expansions, like GTA Vice City Stories and Grand Theft Auto 4’s The Lost and the Damned expansion. Therefore, killing off one or both of the player characters may be an inspired choice.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Could Explore Other Parts of Bonnie and Clyde’s Story

Grand Theft Auto 6 Main Story

Apart from the couple’s crime spree and violent death, GTA 6 could also explore Bonnie and Clyde’s backgrounds and their start in the Barrow Gang. Clyde’s time in prison may be an interesting plot point to tackle, as he may have killed someone in revenge while inside. It could even show Clyde’s return to the Barrow Gang, which his brother founded. Then, the perspective could switch to Bonnie as she does her first raids and robberies with the gang.

Heist missions in Grand Theft Auto 6 will likely be inspired by Bonnie and Clyde's exploits, given this historical background. Some fans may be looking forward to the high-speed chases and heart-pumping gunfights with authorities, while others may be thrilled to see how the game adapts Bonnie and Clyde’s crime spree, which happened in the 1930s, in a modern setting. If the game stays true to real-life events, players may end up leading their protagonists into a final gunfight with the police, sending both characters to their deaths in a blaze of glory. It would be a predictable but unique end to the most ambitious game in the franchise yet.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development.
