The second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 has predictably spread like wildfire throughout the gaming industry, with the disappointment surrounding the game's recent delay being largely replaced by high hopes and anticipation. Crucially, the trailer gave fans their first deep glimpse at Jason Duval, one of the game's protagonists, while giving some needed attention to Vice City and the title's wider cast of supporting characters.
While plenty of fan focus has understandably been placed on the recent trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar also released a huge amount of information on the game's official website, with things like character overviews, videos, screenshots, and a deeper dive into the title's major locations offering more context to the trailer itself. The location profiles for Grand Theft Auto 6 are especially worth diving into, with the Grassrivers region seeming like a lawless and untamed location that has some serious similarities to some of Red Dead Redemption 2's most memorable places.
Grand Theft Auto 6: Things Confirmed by GTA 6 Trailer 2
GTA 6's second trailer has confirmed a few things regarding what will feature in the game. Here are some of the most exciting examples.
Grassrivers Seems to be Home to Some of Grand Theft Auto 6's Wildest Content
Of course, the major selling point of Grand Theft Auto 6's setting is Vice City, the iconic franchise location that first appeared in the franchise's 2006 game of the same name. While the neon-soaked streets of Vice City are massively important in their own right, fans have long wondered to what extent Rockstar will expand the playable area of Grand Theft Auto 6 beyond this. It remains to be seen whether rumors such as GTA 6 featuring tropical islands will hold any weight, but the playable areas directly surrounding Vice City have now been confirmed by Rockstar.
In all, Rockstar revealed five unique areas alongside Vice City for Grand Theft Auto 6, including Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga. Each of these regions have clear purposes in their unique activities, landscapes, and characters, and Grassrivers in particular seems like one of the most distinct locations that players will be able to explore.
The anticipated scale of Grand Theft Auto 6 has also led to theories of the game briefly taking players to other major GTA locations, with visits to the likes of Liberty City and Los Santos potentially being in the cards for the title - though this is obviously just speculation.
Grassrivers takes Vice City's Florida inspirations to the fullest by being a clear parody of the state's Everglades region, being described as a "primordial expanse" filled with swamps, marshland, and mangroves. The rural towns of Grassrivers appear to be filled with paranoid gun-toting locals if the screenshots of the place are anything to go by, with the region seeming like the perfect match for the kind of weird and wonderful characters that the Grand Theft Auto franchise often features.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Proved That Grassrivers Wild Premise Can Work
The early descriptions of Grassrivers also emphasize the region's dangerous fauna, with alligators being a constant threat within its unforgiving swamps. Across both of Grand Theft Auto 6's trailers, airboats have been portrayed as a staple of Grassrivers travel, with the region also probably being key to things like hunting within the upcoming game. While the bayous and swamps of Red Dead Redemption 2 took real-world inspiration from Louisiana, the gameplay opportunities of Grassrivers seem directly comparable to what fans saw in RDR2, right down to things like terrifying alligator encounters.
Grassrivers already seems like the perfect counter to the bustling urban modernity of Vice City, allowing players to escape into a more wild and untamed region away from the bright lights of the city. With the remote settlements of Grassrivers being filled with wacky figures and with its harsh environment necessitating survival, the region seems to take from some of the best locations from Red Dead Redemption 2 to add a real sense of variety to GTA 6.
