Summary

  • Grand Theft Auto 6's protagonists, Lucia and Jason, may have a dynamic similar to Red Dead Redemption 2's Arthur and John.
  • Jason's limited appearance in the trailer suggests he may have a lesser role in the game, similar to John in Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • This doesn't necessarilly mean that Jason would take over for Lucia and only be playable in an epilogue, just that Lucia could be the main character for a majority of missions.

Lucia and Jason from Grand Theft Auto 6 could end up having more in common with the leads of Red Dead Redemption 2 than first expected. Of course, it is still very early, and little information about Grand Theft Auto 6 has been made public yet. Even taking that into account, there is reason to believe that there are twists that fans aren't privy to yet. Some of the twists in question could pertain to the roles of the two lead characters. As such, Lucia and Jason could end up with a dynamic not unlike Rockstar's most famous cowboys.

While the next Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer will likely bring further information, at the moment players only have the first to draw information from. Admittedly, there is enough to paint a fairly decent picture of what to expect from the game. Lucia and Jason have a partnership and commit crimes together, and at the very least, Lucia has been to jail at some point. In addition, the sights of Vice City that players get to see implies that plenty of Grand Theft Auto's raucous absurdity will ensue. Grand Theft Auto 6 showed off a little, but there is still plenty more to come, especially since one of the game's two protagonists has hardly been shown.

Grand Theft Auto 6's Protagonists Could Repeat a Red Dead Redemption Dynamic

Little Has Been Revealed About Jason From GTA 6

While Lucia has been established, GTA 6's male protagonist is still a mystery. Fans have at least a decent idea of what Lucia is like from the trailer, but Jason has not had as much time in the spotlight. In fact, almost all of his screen time in the trailer is alongside Lucia. As a result, fans haven't had much of a chance to learn much about him yet, aside from the fact that he's Lucia's partner at the time that Grand Theft Auto 6 takes place. As it stands, it feels like the two may not play as equal a role in-game as expected despite the cover art making them seem equally important.

Lucia and Jason Could Have Entirely Different Questlines to Handle

Lucia and Jason might not be able to tackle every mission together. Grand Theft Auto 6's story could see its two protagonists frequently having to tackle separate jobs from each other. This could be due to them getting involved with different deals or organizations, or perhaps something more impactful. Looking back to Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur was the protagonist for most of the story, with John taking over in the epilogue. That doesn't necessarily mean that Lucia has to meet the same fate as Arthur in Grand Theft Auto 6. However, the same principle could apply, with Lucia and Jason having missions specific to their own storylines and Lucia being the main character for a large portion of the story.

Rockstar Has Divided Missions Between Protagonists Before

A story structured in this way wouldn't be groundbreaking for Grand Theft Auto. After all, the protagonists of Grand Theft Auto 5 all had their own story missions, as well as side missions that couldn't be taken on by any other character. If anything, it laid down a foundation for Grand Theft Auto 6 to have a similar dynamic with its protagonists. Between that and Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar has a bit of a recent trend for splitting stories between protagonists. So far, it looks like that could be the direction that Grand Theft Auto 6 will take Lucia and Jason.

Grand Theft Auto 6's story could see its two protagonists frequently having to tackle separate jobs from each other.

The dynamic between Lucia and Jason is something that Grand Theft Auto 6 still needs to establish. It could depend on how much GTA 6 borrows from GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2, or it could be a new take on the multiple-protagonist dynamic. Either option would have a major impact on the game. Jason's lack of prominence in the first trailer could be a coincidence, but it could also be a clue. Lucia and Jason may be taking some unexpected cues from Arthur and John in Grand Theft Auto 6, with Jason having less playable segments overall, just like John did in Red Dead 2.
