Earlier this month, gamers got their most substantial look at Grand Theft Auto 6 yet, thanks to a second trailer and game details released by Rockstar. From character backgrounds to map areas, Grand Theft Auto 6 is already looking like an experience packed with content.
Rockstar has gained a reputation for making its world more immersive with every project, and if GTA 6 follows that pattern, then there's no telling how many side activities will be available. Considering that the game's setting of Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida is based on Florida, fishing seems like a given. Red Dead Redemption 2 brought players great hunting and fishing mechanics, and such features are likely to be improved upon in GTA 6.
GTA 6 May Have Already Changed One of Its Characters
GTA 6 fans notice that a character seems to have had their look changed up quite a bit, and there's a suspected reason for it.
GTA 6's Ideal Fishing Mini-Game Would Fully Embrace Leonida's Florida Roots
Florida's Diverse Ecosystem Should Be Front and Center
Whether it be saltwater or freshwater fish, Florida has an abundance. Oceans, swamps, and lakes harbor a vast variety of species, so GTA 6 could potentially have an incredibly varied fishing system. It's already been confirmed by Rockstar that GTA 6 will offer diverse areas to explore. Whether it be the beaches of Vice City and the Leonida Keys, the swamps of the Grassrivers, or the rivers and lakes of Mount Kalaga, there are already plenty of options for aspiring in-game fishermen to choose from.
GTA 6 Hopefully Has a Variety of Fishing Boat Options
- Kayaks
- Canoes
- Motorboats
- Pontoons
- Yachts
To add even more variety to the fishing possibilities, a variety of boat options that can be purchased might bring the realism of GTA 6 to new heights. One of the best parts about the GTA franchise is that players get to immerse themselves in the lives of its characters, and getting to spend the day fishing in Mount Kalaga on a kayak or off the coast of the Leonida Keys with an awesome motorboat or yacht could prove to be a relaxing side activity.
Rockstar has gained a reputation for making its world more immersive with every project, and if GTA 6 follows that pattern, then there's no telling how many side activities will be available.
It's been confirmed that protagonist Jason Duval has made his home in the Leonida Keys.
Fishing in GTA 6 Could Still Bring Its Fair Share of Threats
All across the world, fishing is a popular pastime. Whether it be for survival, fun, or a combination of the two, fishing is a global activity. While hanging out with a rod next to a bank and watching the sun rise or set is incredibly relaxing, the Florida wilderness is also dangerous, and that could shake up a fishing mini-game even further. Leonida is bound to be home to plenty of sharks and alligators, and it might be both fun and heart-stopping to throw that into GTA 6's potential fishing mechanics.
Red Dead Redemption 2 did a great job at highlighting how unpredictable nature is, and GTA 6 could repeat this. It's easy to imagine a situation where one is fishing while playing as either Jason or Lucia only to suddenly snag an alligator or shark. That would definitely be on brand for Rockstar, and even though it could prove frustrating if overdone, making it a rare occurrence could make it feel more like a hilarious surprise.
The Wait For GTA 6 Continues, But Not For Much Longer
Although Rockstar delayed GTA 6 from this fall to next year, the game finally feels closer than ever. Between the new trailer, character info, and confirmed locations, there are at least plenty of fresh details to comb through until 2026. As the year continues, it will be exciting to see if Rockstar offers a deep dive into the mini-games available throughout Leonida, but only time will tell.
