GTA 6 Fan Recreates Screenshots in GTA 5

Reddit user Noru122 has recreated an assortment of Grand Theft Auto 6 screenshots in GTA 5, demonstrating just how much of a graphical leap the next entry in the franchise really is. There was a decade between GTA 5's launch and Grand Theft Auto 6's official reveal, and gaming tech has come a long way in that time.

It's been 22 months since GTA 6 was announced, and in that time, just two trailers have been officially released by Rockstar Games. The first GTA 6 trailer introduced fans to Lucia Caminos, one half of the game's Bonny and Clyde-inspired protagonist duo, and re-introduced long-time GTA fans to the series' Vice City setting. The second GTA 6 trailer, which released back in May, shed more light on co-protagonist Jason Duval and the game's overarching story.

On October 27, Reddit user Noru122 posted a series of images to the social media platform that put official Grand Theft Auto 6 screenshots side-by-side with recreations of the same shot in GTA 5. Noru122 made these recreations using Grand Theft Auto 5 Legacy Edition with the mods Menyoo and VisualV installed, which provide enhanced graphical effects like improved lighting and weather. While these recreated screenshots may not be entirely representative of what vanilla Grand Theft Auto 5 looks like, they still paint a very clear picture of just how far Rockstar Games has come since 2013.

This is the second set of comparison screenshots Noru122 has made for GTA 6 and GTA 5, with the first set coming back in May.

The most immediate difference that stands out between these fan-made comparisons is just how much more detail GTA 6 is bringing to the table. Everything from character models to scenery objects to vehicles, weapons, and clothing all feature refined textures, weathering, and generally just a greater amount of graphical detail.

Another standout improvement GTA 6 seems to be making is with lighting. Though GTA 5 had some impressive natural lighting and shadow effects for the time, GTA 6's lighting systems seem to be pushing modern ray tracing tech to its limit, and that's never been clearer than with these screenshot comparisons.

Of course, there's a possibility that Grand Theft Auto 6 could end up losing some of its impressive graphical detail on its way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S for the sake of optimization. But Rockstar Games has a strong track record of its trailers matching the final product.
