The massive San Andreas Mercenaries update for Grand Theft Auto Online is now available. Announced in early July, the San Andreas Mercenaries update focuses on an operation named Project Overthrow run by Charlie Reed to take down the corrupt Merryweather Security organization. The six new Project Overthrow missions are just the start of all the new Grand Theft Auto Online content that San Andreas Mercenaries delivers, though. LSA Operations, upgraded Hanger properties and Source Missions, new vehicles, and more have been added to the game.
In its San Andreas Mercenaries update announcement on June 2, Rockstar shared just a taste of what was to be delivered in today's Grand Theft Auto Online patch. In addition to listing planned content additions, however, Rockstar also directly addressed the community. It acknowledged that many of the improvements coming in San Andreas Mercenaries were being done in response to direct feedback from the Grand Theft Auto Online community. San Andreas Mercenaries was made in part due to continued support from players.
The biggest addition to Grand Theft Auto Online is Project Overthrow. Six story-driven missions will allow players to group up with three of their friends to take on high-stakes challenges. Launched from the Mammoth Avenger's latest Operations Terminal upgrade, each mission will be unique to its own. Conduct reconnaissance, recover equipment, execute rescues, and battle Merryweather Security across San Andreas. Project Overthrow is just the latest endgame content for Grand Theft Auto Online.
From the new Operations Terminal, Grand Theft Auto Online players can also launch three new LSA Operations private contracts. Rockstar saw an opportunity to share even more missions, separate from the events of Project Overthrow. They include a skydiving infiltration onto an aircraft carrier, taking out a government installation with an EMP, and calling in a bombing run. Each LSA Operation also grants an outfit for first-time completion.
That's just the start of the massive San Andrea Mercenaries update, though. The Hangar can be upgraded with a variety of great features, three new Grand Theft Auto Online Sell Missions have been added, the Mammoth Avenger can be upgraded and customized, vehicles including the Grotti Itali GTO Stinger TT and Maibatsu MonstroCiti are now available, and the Tactical SMG is on offer in the Gun Van. There are also a ton of quality-of-life improvements, including an entirely rebalanced economy.
The San Andreas Mercenaries update overhauls Grand Theft Auto Online in a variety of exciting ways. Those looking for an opportunity to go back to the online multiplayer game now have a great excuse. Even Grand Theft Auto Online's biggest fans will have plenty to be excited about. It's by no means the end of Grand Theft Auto Online content updates, either. Rockstar is already hinting about a "large-scale battle on Cayo Perico" arriving in a few more weeks.
Grand Theft Auto Online is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
