Cult favorite Sony Japan Studio title Gravity Rush 2 could be making a comeback on contemporary platforms. If certain insider rumors are confirmed, Sony could be planning to bring Gravity Rush 2 to the PlayStation 5 and PC soon.
Gravity Rush first debuted as a PS Vita exclusive title in 2012, and starred a young woman named Kat, a "gravity shifter" in the floating city of Hekseville. The sequel, Gravity Rush 2, appeared on the PlayStation 4 in 2017 and followed Kat and her fellow gravity-shifting partner Raven, as they explored a new destination called Jirga Para Lhao. The Gravity Rush titles were well-liked by fans, but they struggled commercially and ultimately failed to become wider hits. Both are currently available on PS4, with Gravity Rush Remastered and Gravity Rush 2 included in the PS Plus Game Catalog.
Gravity Rush 2 Review
Gravity Rush 2 is bigger and better than its predecessor, but frustrating stealth sections and a wonky camera keep it from taking the series to the next level.
Gravity Rush 2 Remaster Could Land on PlayStation 5
Rumors of a possible Gravity Rush 2 remaster come courtesy of a Sony "insider" going by the handle of Orangee. Their comments, which were posted on a Discord server, were shared by Reddit user Pomarancza123PL in the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit. Orangee is thought to be reliable as they leaked earlier news about the in-production Gravity Rush film adaptation, behind-the-scenes footage of which appeared during Sony's 2024 CES presentation in January.
Orangee's comments about a future Gravity Rush 2 remaster suggest that the game may be announced as early as May 2024, with a targeted summer release window on the PlayStation 5. Orangee claims that they know playtesters currently working on the game, and expect that Gravity Rush 2 Remastered (or whatever it ends up being called) will have extra features like a photo mode and tweaks to simplify some of the game's original online functionality. They also claim that it'll arrive on PC at a later date. Gravity Rush is one of several PS4 exclusive games that many fans request a PC port of.
Whether or not Orangee's statements turn out to be true, there's no denying that many players are looking to Sony to make some of its PlayStation 4-era games available on more platforms. The idea of Gravity Rush or Gravity Rush 2 getting PS5 and PC treatments also fits Sony's recent moves, which saw previous exclusives like Days Gone, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Marvel's Spider-Man all eventually make it to PC, after a period of console exclusivity. Sony is also likely looking at the runaway success of recent multiplatform releases like Helldivers 2 which launched on both PC and PS5 simultaneously, as it plans for the future.
