While the original tips still hold true, there are some additional pieces of advice that should strongly be considered. Whether it’s implementing new tactics in battle or knowing what items to hang onto here are some additional tips and tricks for when you’re starting out.

15 Sneak Attack Groups

Groups of enemies can be a problem initially by presenting an obstacle to completing certain side quests or getting access to important areas. Simply sneaking past them also causes the player to miss out on important experience and possible loot.

One thing to consider is taking the group down one by one using sneak attacks. The player gets critical hits when performing sneak attacks so players should be able to take them down fast enough to not raise attention. It’s tedious and admittedly a bit buggy at times, but it’s a great way to whittle down a group to a more manageable size.

14 Hang Onto Faction Disguises

There are a number of factions in the game and all have different interactions with each other and the player. Initially, and as the player makes more decisions, certain factions will like the player less and less and prevent them from accessing their valuable merchants and other services. This can be especially problematic when completing a quest that requires entering a faction camp that hates your guts.

To get around this, players should be building a stash of faction disguises. After taking down soldiers and important figures in a faction’s army the player will acquire uniforms and other disguises. These provide an effective means of sneaking into a faction camp without raising alarms. The Naut disguise is an example of something players should get and hang on to.

13 Do Side Quests First

It’s really easy to put off side quests in this game. It’s common for players to put off side quests in favor of pursuing the main story and making progress. In reality, it’s better to pump the brakes on the main story and chase down those side missions.

The reason for this is that they often provide benefits that make the main story easier. Better gear, an extra bit of coin, or even just the experience can make all the difference on an upcoming challenge. The other reason is that finishing the side quests later will seem pointless as the rewards are lackluster later in the game when the player is stronger. Better to do them early and make things easier on yourself.

12 Prioritize Magic Healing

Magic, in general, makes for an effective tool in and out of battle. Every build should use a spell or two for various reasons. But every character, especially players starting out, should be making Magic Healing a priority.

Healing can be tricky in the beginning before the player has amassed potions or the coin to buy them. Having a healing spell can provide a limitless source of healing that doesn’t cost anything. When upgraded it can also heal the entire party.

11 Keep Gear For Future Respecs

A solid strategy throughout the game is to respec the character every now and then. Players will find themselves gravitating towards different playstyles or certain enemies will require a different approach. Because of this, it’s important to hang onto powerful or useful gear that may not fit the current playstyle.

It’s tempting to offload it to buy more useful things in the moment. But there’s nothing more annoying than respeccing a character only to find out that powerful hammer you sold an hour is now perfect for the new playstyle. Don’t hold onto everything, but if something seems powerful or handy but not optimal for a current build consider hanging onto it for a future change.

10 Focus On Endurance

After you pick one of the three archetypes to play as you have the option of selecting your starting attribute. While many of the attributes are incredibly useful and should be part of your character build, endurance far outpaces the others in terms of usefulness.

It’s required to wear heavy armor which is useful for more melee minded characters, it improves balance to better resist attacks, and it improves your overall health pool which is useful for any build. Picking this as your starting attribute will go a long way to giving you some early survivability and remain useful throughout the game.

9 Starting Talent

There are many talents that will be useful for your adventures, but in the beginning, it’s highly recommended you go with either Vigor or Lockpicking. If you plan on engaging in combat frequently then Vigor is the clear winner as it will regenerate your mana and health points without needing potions as much.

If you want to be a more stealth-based character and steal anything not bolted down then Lockpicking will give you access to chests that can contain helpful loot. Ultimately you probably want both, but consider carefully which you pick in the beginning based on your playstyle.

8 Explore All Options

This game does a good job of giving the player more than one way to complete a quest or overcome a challenge. While combat can’t always be avoided there are multiple opportunities to talk your way out of things or sneak around problems.

The violent option is always there of course, but if your running low on health and supplies sometimes it’s beneficial to take a more tactical approach and avoid any losses. If you’re struggling with a particular section, odds are you aren’t thinking of all your options.

7 Consider Your Words Carefully

There is a lot of talking in this game and it’s important to pay attention to what’s begin said rather than just click through. Your words carry weight and saying the wrong thing can put you in bad standing with different factions or characters.

Many characters also contain useful information that can benefit you and your team. Solutions to quests, campfires, powerful items, or areas of interest can all be gleaned through dialogue so pay attention to what you say and what’s being said.

6 Be Curious

Your character has just arrived on a strange and mysterious land full of monsters, magic, natives, untold treasures, and maybe the cure to a horrific plague. You can bet that being a little curious and taking time to explore this world is going to be immensely beneficial.

Granted it’s not exactly an open world game, but there is a lot you’ll miss if you don’t wander off the beaten path now and then. You never know when you’ll find that chest containing just what you need or an interesting side quest that puts you in good standing with a faction.
