Marvel Studios has unveiled the first official trailer for the upcoming shorts series I Am Groot, and it is the cutest thing that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will see on the internet today. The series brings back Vin Diesel's adorable character, who fans last saw in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The trailer was screened at the San Diego Comic-Con, and is expected to be just one of many reveals that the studio has planned for the convention.
The minute-long I Am Groot trailer showcases just some of the adventures that the Guardians of the Galaxy fan-favorite character will go on. Along with the trailer, the studio also confirmed that the first five episodes of the series will premiere on August 10, just a week before She-Hulk. While the release date was announced earlier when the first poster for the Groot series was released, the latest update confirms that five more episodes are being worked on and will be released sometime in the future.
Even though I Am Groot is an animated series, the visual effects make Diesel's character look exactly the way he did in the films. The trailer begins with some tense music, a happy colony of tiny creatures, and a potential danger nearby. This turns out to be Groot, who happily introduces himself to the creatures in his traditional manner of “I am Groot.” Obviously not pleased with the intrusion, the creatures begin attacking him with what appears to be some high-tech gear. The hero of few words manages to escape in the most comical way, and this is where his adventures seem to begin.
The rest of the trailer offers fans glimpses of the five episodes in the shorts series, with Groot seemingly finding a home in the forest and learning a lot about himself. In the process, he might blow up a few explosives, don a leaf dress, and even meet a holographic version of himself. Groot seems to be living his best life in the I Am Groot trailer, and it remains to be seen where these short adventures will take him. It is also confirmed that Bradley Cooper will be returning to voice Rocket Raccoon, which means that fans can expect a cameo from Groot's best friend.
Not a lot of details surrounding the episodes have been revealed so far, and it is unclear whether I Am Groot will be MCU canon or not. It is known that the shorts series is a spin-off of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, so perhaps the series might add elements to the lives of the Guardians. When Baby Groot and Teen Groot first appeared in the films, they became instant hits among younger fans. Considering the series is releasing soon, it might once again lead to Groot merchandise becoming popular.
I Am Groot premieres on Disney Plus on August 10, 2022.
