Base building is a core part of the gameplay loop in Grounded 2. A player’s base location has a huge impact on their enjoyment of the experience, as a conveniently located base that’s near important resource nodes proves its worth many times over during the course of a playthrough. That said, choosing a base location is tricky, because a player’s needs will evolve as they progress through multiple stages of the game.

A base location that may be excellent for the early game may not necessarily serve in the later parts of the storyline. Before committing to a base location and spending hours building the perfect sanctuary, it’s wise to take a beat and evaluate the available options to make a smart choice. To solve this problem, this guide covers multiple base locations for all stages of the game.

Best Early Game Base Location in Grounded 2

Ranger Outpost: Snackbar Clearing

  • Pros: Easy to access, no hostile insects nearby
  • Cons: Far away from late-game resources, small area to build
  • Nearby Resources: Grass, Dry Grass, Clover, Clay, Sap, Acorns
  • Danger Level: None

The empty clearing directly in front of the Ranger Outpost: Snackbar is the best location for the early game in Grounded 2. For the first ten or so hours of the game, players will find everything they need within walking distance of this location. All insects and creatures nearby are non-hostile, making it a safe spot to retreat to in the early stages of the game when players are often forced to run away from larger threats.

Aphids and Weevils frequently roam the area, serving as an easy way to satiate hunger in the early game. Most main missions in Grounded 2 also require communicating with Sloane through a Comms Array, something that can easily be done at the Ranger Outpost.

Ranger Outpost: Trash Bags Clearing

  • Pros: Near late-game resources, huge space, vertical building spots
  • Cons: Non-central location, far away from certain POIs
  • Nearby Resources: Clover, Clay, Sap, Pine Needles, Flower Petals, Weed Stems
  • Danger Level: Low (Spiderlings, Orb Weaver Jr.)

Trash Bags is another incredible location for a first base, as it contains all the amenities the Ranger Outpost: Snackbar provides and offers quicker access to late-game resources like Lingonberries and Pine Needles on top of that. Additionally, the Trash Bag station also houses a Comms Array, which makes completing main missions easy.

There is a huge clearing directly in front of the Ranger Outpost for players who want a nice, easy spot to build. Alternatively, it’s also possible to build on the rock above the station, or even on the wooden posts above the rock. There is a lot of room for creativity in this location.

Best Mid Game Base Location in Grounded 2

Snackbar Front Wooden Table

  • Pros: Large flat building space, scenic view, regular visits from bees, defensible
  • Cons: Corner of the map, far away from central POIs
  • Nearby Resources: Mint Shards, Dry Grass, Mushrooms, Clay, Clover
  • Danger Level: Medium (Bombardier Beetle, Mosquitos)

The wooden table in front of the Snackbar provides a huge flat area for players to realize their most extravagant base ideas in a safe location. It is by far the biggest piece of flat space in the entire game, and instead of requiring scaffolding, players can place their base structures directly on the table’s surface.

As a downside, most building resources required for the base will need to be brought in from the surrounding locations, as the table itself is empty. To avoid triggering the Mosquitos and the Bombardier Beetle, it is recommended to start building from the bottom left corner of the table and expand from there.

Ceremony Boulder

  • Pros: Central location, naturally high elevation, scenic view, regular visits from bees
  • Cons: Small area to build, area is filled with hostile threats
  • Nearby Resources: Dry Grass, Thistle Needle, Clover, High-level monster parts
  • Danger Level: High (Bombardier Beetle, Northern Scorpions, Orb Weaver)

The Ceremony Boulder shines as a late-to-mid-game location when players are equipped with powerful gear and are ready to face the powerful threats of Brookhollow Park. The location is deceptively high, making it easy to get a bird’s-eye view of the surroundings whenever heading out for a new journey.

It’s near the Ranger Outpost: Ceremony, meaning players will also have a convenient location to analyze resources if needed. Despite the area being surrounded by high-level creatures all around, they will not follow the player to their base if you choose to run away, making retreat a viable option if needed.

Best Late Game Base Location in Grounded 2

Wooden Stumps Near Lamp Post

  • Pros: Creative base building location, scenic view, highly defensible, central location
  • Cons: Requires a lot of preparation and building materials, layout needs careful planning
  • Nearby Resources: Sap, Clover, Milkweed Tufts, Spicy Candy, Acorn, Pinecone
  • Danger Level: Low (Wolf Spider, Orb Weaver)

For builders looking to create something unique and interesting, the Wooden Stumps surrounding the lamp post are the perfect locations. There are multiple ways to get on top of these stumps, including a web bridge, a twig, and even careful parkour. Despite being surrounded by a highly dangerous spider nest, none of the arachnids will pay attention to what’s going on top of the stump as they have no way of reaching up there.

Similarly, base raids are easy to defend against since you can safely snipe attackers from up on high without worrying about attacks except from flying foes. The area is also resource-rich, located in the middle of the map, making it very convenient as a base of operations. To the west is the Picnic Table, to the east is the Statue, to the north is Pine Hill and the Fire Pit, and to the south is the Ice Cream Cart and the Snackbar area.

Statue Front Steps

  • Pros: Large open space to build, incredible views, late-game area
  • Cons: Requires planning, uneven flooring makes scaffolding a necessity
  • Nearby Resources: Crow Tail Feather
  • Danger Level: Low (Mosquitos)

The statue front steps provide a massive open area for building that not only offers great views, but is completely safe from all threats. After players destroy the O.R.C. Transmitters in the area, all hostile threats will be permanently taken care of. The only enemies of note nearby are the Mosquitoes below the steps, but they never fly high enough to catch sight of what’s going on above the front steps, making them a non-issue.

A key limitation to building a base in this area is a lack of building materials. No grass grows on concrete, meaning if players want to build here, they’ll need to carry the building materials up there. The most convenient method is to build a series of steps from the Grass Games or Ceremony area leading up to the Statue front steps to make it easy for your Red Soldier Ant Buggy to climb with the materials.
