Some bugs in Grounded 2 are trickier to find than others, with many to discover in the treacherous open world of Brookhollow Park. One such ferocious Tier 3 insect you might have trouble tracking down in Grounded 2 is the Praying Mantis, an angry, smaller version of the Mantis boss from the original game that's also known as Praying Mantis Nymphs. While Mantis seemed to enjoy living in a big flower pot, it can be tough finding the precise locations of Praying Mantis Nymphs across Grounded 2’s massive park landscape, with several possible spawn locations to uncover.
Grounded 2 Reveals Early Access Roadmap
Obsidian Entertainment unveils an early access roadmap for Grounded 2 that outlines what players can expect from future content updates.
If you fancy a bit of a challenge fighting one of the park's tougher insects, this guide details where to find Praying Mantis Nymphs in Grounded 2, how to beat them, and the loot drops you get if you manage to survive a fight with one. It also details how to craft the Mantis Blade, one of the recipes you can make from this deadly bug’s remains.
Where to Find Praying Mantis Nymphs in Grounded 2
It can be tricky to find Praying Mantis Nymphs in Grounded 2 as they have several specific spawn locations throughout the map and camouflage well into the environment. However, it is often best to search for them in certain tall grass spots where you can find Praying Mantis Nymphs hiding on top of tall light pink flower plants with big orange leaves, some of which you can also spot on the map. Occasionally, you might also find them crawling nearby, perched on blades of grass, or facing off against other bugs.
Praying Mantis Nymph Locations (Spawn Locations)
Praying Mantis Nymphs seem to appear in the following spawn locations in Grounded 2, as follows and pictured above:
- Near the park entrance, south of the garbage can and close to the bottom of the map in the Entrance zone, as pictured above.
- In the middle of the grassy area in the Snackbar Front map zone west of the Headless BURG.L.
- In the northeast corner of the Ceremony map area west of the statue, not far from the apple core and trailing red ribbon on the ground.
- Additionally, it may also be possible to find Praying Mantis Nymphs in the area south of the statue and toward the west side of the Pine Hill area, underneath the pine tree.
If you're struggling to find Praying Mantis Nymphs in Grounded 2, the park entrance could be the best option to try first, as it's not too far from the Snackhill Ranger Outpost starting area, as shown in the video below, and avoids most other dangerous bugs typically found in the northern parts of the park. However, watch out for Northern Scorpions that also appear in this zone—although, if you're lucky, they might join in and attack the Praying Mantis Nymph for you, as also shown in the video below:
You'll know you've found a Praying Mantis Nymph by its tall stature, green appearance, and also by the fact that it could seemingly pop up out of nowhere due to its hiding location and attack you instantly. It can be helpful to use your PEEP.R Goggles to locate one before it detects you, so you can get the jump on it instead.
How to Beat Praying Mantis Nymphs in Grounded 2
It can be tough to beat a Praying Mantis Nymphs in Grounded 2, so it's best to equip yourself with the best weapons and armor you have, plus prepare for a longer fight than with other bugs in the park. If you can peep a Praying Mantis before the battle begins, you can also learn their resistances, weaknesses, and weak points via their Creature Card, as detailed below:

Praying Mantis Nymphs have a big chunk of health and several different attack patterns, including jumping towards you and seemingly vanishing in a rush of gray smoke. Players who prefer ranged builds might want to chip away at their health from a distance using bows and arrows. However, it can be quicker to get in close when possible, using a stronger slashing or fresh weapon to swipe larger chunks off its health, focusing on hitting its eyes or wherever you can.
If all else fails, you can also try to cheese the fight from a height and see if other aggressive bugs in the area might join in the battle to help, enabling you to swipe the loot afterward when it's safe.
