Grounded 2 The Toxic Tangle DLC has brought lots of new mutations and a whole restructuring of the mutation system. Now perks are divided into passive (which activate depending on the weapons players equip) and active, the ones players can activate from the Mutation Menu.

This is a full guide on every mutation in the Toxic Tangle Update, as well as details on how to unlock them and the best way to use them to explore Brookhollow Park and its newly available zones.

Wondering how to get the Ladybug Buggy in Grounded 2 The Toxic Tangle? Here's a full guide on how to get yourself this cool new mount!

All Mutations in Grounded 2 The Toxic Tangle

As mentioned before, there have been many changes in the mutation system, and now players will always have a passive mutation and up to four active mutations at the same time. As for the new mutations in Toxic Tangle Update, here is a complete overview of how to unlock them and their effects:

Passive mutations now activate depending on the weapon set players have equipped. Swapping weapons immediately activates the new passive mutation.

Bardic Inspiration

Grounded 2 Bardic Inspiration

This returning mutation from Grounded is the star of the show in Grounded 2: The Toxic Tangle, and requires a major bug hunt to be unlocked. Players need to search and kill 10 Crickets to make this Mutation pop up on their character, and despite the challenging unlock condition, it's absolutely worth it.

Bardic Inspiration causes every bow shot to have a chance to buff ally players and buggies with the following effects:

  • Attacks with Bows and Greatbows have a 20% chance to buff the player and nearby allies' damage by 15% for 10 seconds.
  • Perfect shots with Bows and Greatbows will buff the player and nearby allies' critical hit chance by 5% for 10 seconds.
  • Dodges have a 20% chance to buff the player and nearby allies' stamina regeneration by 25% for 10 seconds.

On the other hand, dodges also trigger a similar effect when the Mutation reaches level 3, which is a nice extra to have. But here's where things get really broken: players can combine the new Cricket Lute Bow and the Cricket Armor Set to become the healers/bards of the team. They can also alternate with the modified version of the bow: Discord, to debuff enemies instead of buffing and healing allies.

Mages in Grounded 2 rely on Candy Staves to deal elemental damage and status buildup on their enemies, and are able to engage from a distance.

Sour Sensation

Grounded 2 Sour Sensation Mutation

This new Survival perk allows players to resist the effects of the new environmental hazard present in Brookhollow Park: Sour Tang. This acid puddle-like status effect corrodes armor and lowers the defenses of both players and buggies. The same can be said about enemy bugs, since there's a new array of Tang-based weapons to try out (especially Acid Ruin, the new Mage Staff).

Sour Sensation is unlocked by eating Sour Lumps. Eating 10 will unlock the highest level of this Mutation, which has the following effects when active:

  • Reduces Tang Build-Up rate by 25%/40%/50%.(Level 1, 2, and 3)
  • Level 3: Grants immunity to the durability-draining effects of Tang Build-Up

Consider that this perk is an extreme necessity while exploring the Tang-covered sections of the Greenhouse, Crocket Court, Veggie Garden, and the Pumpkin Patch.

Two other Mutations have been added (or to be more precise, revamped) for this Update: Hauling Hero and Whittle Wizard.

Hauling Hero

Grounded 2 Hauling Hero

The Hauling Hero mutation now unlocks and upgrades at level 2, 3, and 4 of cozyness, meaning that players need to build a really good base with decorations to unlock this ability that allows them to carry more building mats in only one trip.

  • Haul 5/10/15 more Grass Planks or Weed Stems at the same time.

Whittle Wizard

Whittle Wizard Grounded 2 The Toxic Tangle Update

Whittle Wizard, the Mutation that affected Candy Staff effects, has now become a Passive Mutation, which is always activated when players wield a Staff. This passive requires players to kill 40/100/200 creatures using staffs to unlock and level up, and these are the effects each rank have:

  • Rank 1: Sizzle, shatter, and puckle damage slightly increases.
  • Rank 2: Sizzle, shatter, and puckle damage increases.
  • Rank 3: Sizzle, shatter, and puckle damage Greatly increases.
