Summary

  • The Prehistoric Update (Part 1 and 2) in Grow a Garden introduces new seeds, pets, and quests, with exclusive rewards upon completion.
  • Obtain the exclusive Ancient Seed Pack and new crops like Giant Pinecone, Burning Bud, and Bone Blossom to maximize profits in the game.
  • Dinosaur and Primal eggs can hatch into six different pets, each with unique abilities, while new mutations enhance crop values in the game.
  • Pet Mutations is a new system added in the 1.14.0 update that lets you upgrade your pet traits and have your pets apply mutations to fruits.

After the two-week-long Summer seasonal update in Grow a Garden, the devs have dropped a dinosaur-themed Prehistoric Update, followed by a second part that builds on the same material. This time around, not only is Sam back at the seed shop with all of your favorite crops, but there are also eight brand-new seeds up for grabs. One of them even outshines Candy Blossom when it comes to the selling price.

On top of that, there are plenty of dinosaur pets and cosmetics to add to your garden, along with a new duo of traveling merchants who let you pick up some of the older seeds again. Here’s what's included in the Prehistoric event update in the Roblox game Grow a Garden.

Updated by Somiya Adrees on July 15, 2025: This guide covers all the content added in the Prehistoric Update Parts 1 and 2. The 1.14.0 Pet Mutation update is just an expansion of the Prehistoric 1.13.0 update. It mostly has the same tasks, like doing prehistoric quests and making Dino Eggs, with a few small upgrades and new mechanics.

Prehistoric Event Quest and Rewards

The Prehistoric event brings a bunch of quests you’ll need to wrap up at the Pre-Historic Quest Stand to earn some fantastic rewards. The tasks are pretty simple, like harvesting, planting crops, or aging pets. After the 1.14.0 update, you’ll get three basic quests and two bonus ones to help you move forward on the prize track. Here’s a list of all the possible quest tasks:

  • Grow a Raptor to Age 15
  • Grow an Iguanodon to Age 15
  • Craft 1 Lightning Rod
  • Craft 2 Mutation Spray Amber
  • Craft 3 Horsetail Seeds
  • Craft 1 Amber Spine Seed

It’s a good idea to keep a stock of the required ingredients (seeds, crops, eggs, money, and sprinklers) ready so you can end the tasks within the time slot. They tend to refresh roughly every 12 hours.

To be eligible for rewards, you’ll need to finish the aforementioned quests a certain number of times. If you’re unsure how it works, this guide can help. Once you start reaching the required quest milestones, you’ll receive the following prizes:

DNA Machine and Its Upgrades

The second big thing in the Prehistoric updates is the DNA Machine. There's a scientist named Graham running it, and he uses your pets' DNA to create Dinosaur Eggs for you; sometimes, he might even hand you a dinosaur directly. Just give him critters for his research, like the Golden Lab, Bees, Bunny, and more. He’ll accept anything except dinosaur pets.

You can upgrade the DNA Machine up to six times to unlock perks like access to another Dino Egg called the Primal Egg, getting more eggs from Graham, and even reducing the time it takes to make eggs. Here’s a quick look at all the upgrades and their costs:

All DNA Machine Upgrades

Cost

Create Primal Egg in the DNA Machine

40kg of prehistoric fruits

Build Pet Eggs in 48 minutes instead of 1 hour

60 kg of prehistoric fruits

Get guaranteed two eggs from the device

80 kg of prehistoric fruits

Craft both Primal and Dinosaur Eggs at the Prehistoric Crafting Table

100kg of prehistoric fruits

Make Pet Eggs in 24 minutes instead of 48 minutes

120 kg of prehistoric fruits

Once you level up your device, you’ll start getting a mix of Dinosaur and Primal Eggs, though most of the time, you’ll get Primal ones. If you’ve got at least one Bone Blossom seed, you can easily craft the egg you want at the quest crafting table. If not, it’s probably not the best idea to rush the upgrades, especially if you're aiming for Dinosaur pets like the T-Rex.

Along with the Ancient Seed Pack crops, you can also craft and collect some prehistoric plant seeds in Grow a Garden. Right now, Bone Blossom is way more profitable than Candy Blossom, it gives you 875,000 Sheckles in a single harvest, even without any mutations. So, you finally have a seed that makes up for it. It’s also event-exclusive, so be sure to grab it before it disappears.

Pet Mutations

what are pet mutations in grow a garden

On the left side of the Pet Eggs stall, you’ll find a new Pet Mutations machine. It takes in pets aged 50 years or older and gives them different variants. The results are RNG-based, so it really depends on your luck which mutation your pet ends up with.

These mutations aren’t just for looks, they also improve your pet's traits and let it apply variants to plants in your garden. If you're curious, here’s a full guide explaining how this new mechanic works.

Latest Crop Mutations

The 1.13.0 update introduced four new mutations. The table below explains each one and how you can get them on your crops:

All Variants

Multiplier

How to Get Them

Clay Mutation

2x Value

In Grow a Garden, when your Wet fruits also become Sandy, they automatically gain Clay Mutation. This replaces the Wet and Sandy multipliers. It isn’t usually worth keeping unless you're aiming for the Ceramic Mutation.

Sandy Mutation

3x Value

During Sandstorm weather, some of your crops will turn Sandy, increasing their selling value.

Amber Mutation

10x Value

To get the Amber Mutation in Grow a Garden, either leave a Raptor in your garden or use an Amber Mutation Spray on your fruits. This variant makes your fruit 10 times more profitable.

Tempestuous Mutation

12x Value

Pair a fruit with Sandy, Windstruck, and Twisted mutations.

OldAmber Mutation

20x Value

Once your hanging fruit has the Amber mutation for 24 hours, it’ll transform into this variant.

Ceramic Mutation

30x Value

If a fruit has both Clay and Burnt Mutation, or Clay and Sundried Mutation, it becomes Ceramic, increasing its value 30 times.

AncientAmber Mutation

50x Value

Your OldAmber fruits will turn into AncientAmber after 48 hours (2 days).

Friendbound Mutation

70x Value

Place Friendship Pots in your garden with different friends and keep the streak alive.

Infected Mutation

75x Value

When the devs activate the Brains event, let Zoombies spread their virus to your fruits.

Traveling Merchants

The Summer Traveling Merchant

During the Prehistoric update, there’s a chance for the Summer Traveling Merchant to show up every four hours in Grow a Garden. The best part is that she’s offering all the summer crops in her Summer Seed Shop. If you missed out on them during the last update, now’s the perfect chance to grab them.

The Honey Traveling Merchant

Just like the Summer Merchant, the Honey Merchant might also appear in the game every four hours, offering a unique set of crops. However, instead of Sheckles, his shop only accepts Honey as currency. So if you’ve got any saved up from previous events, now’s the time to use them. Here's what the Honey Merchant sells:

While the Honey Combpressor isn’t around, you can still get extra Honey by handing Pollinated Fruits to the Honey Merchant during the Prehistoric and Pet Mutation updates.
