GTA 6 May Be About to Win Its Second Award Before It Even…

Grand Theft Auto 6 has been nominated for 'Most Anticipated Game' at the Game Awards for the second year in a row, meaning it could pick up two awards before it even launches. Grand Theft Auto 6 was nominated and won the award for most anticipated game during the 2024 Game Awards ceremony, but numerous delays have now pushed the title all the way from its original release window of Fall 2025 to November 19, 2026, making it eligible to win the same award for a second year running.

By the time Grand Theft Auto 6 finally releases, it will have been thirteen years since the last installment in the series. While Rockstar Games has kept fans busy with numerous content updates for Grand Theft Auto Online, upgrades and improvements to Grand Theft Auto 5, and releases outside of the series, such as the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, fans are eager to jump into a new GTA game. So much so that the title was already crowned as the most anticipated game during last year's Game Awards, but multiple delays have now made it eligible for the same award once again.

GTA 6 May Win Most Anticipated Game for the Second Year in a Row

On November 17, The Game Awards 2025 nominees were officially revealed. While the ceremony won't take place until December 11, it's looking to be a big night for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has received 10 nominations, the most in Game Awards history. However, Grand Theft Auto 6 may also be about to join a prestigious group, as it could win the 'Most Anticipated Game' award for the second year running. The only other title to achieve such a feat was Elden Ring, which won in both 2020 and 2021.

With that being said, it does have some strong competition. Also nominated for 'Most Anticipated Game' at this year's Game Awards are Marvel's Wolverine, The Witcher 4, Resident Evil Requiem, and 007 First Light. There's a very strong chance that Grand Theft Auto 6 goes home with the award for the second year in a row, but some fans believe it could be awarded to Marvel's Wolverine. Insomniac Games' next superhero title was announced all the way back in 2021, but it finally received a Fall 2026 release window alongside a brand-new trailer earlier this year.

For those curious about how Grand Theft Auto 6 has been nominated for the second year in a row, it's due to the disappointing delays the title has faced this year. The next GTA game was initially set to launch in Fall 2025, before being delayed to May 26, 2026. While Take-Two Interactive boss Strauss Zelnick assured fans the company was confident in this date, Rockstar left fans disappointed once again when it revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 had been delayed again, this time to November 19, 2026.
