Grand Theft Auto 6 may still not be content complete, according to a trusted industry insider and journalist. After being delayed multiple times over the past two years, fans are becoming increasingly concerned that Grand Theft Auto 6 may not be ready for its current 2026 release date, and now journalist Jason Schreier has cast further doubt on Rockstar's plans, saying that the team likely can't say with 100% certainty that the title will be good to go for November.
Fans were given their first unofficial look at the next Grand Theft Auto game all the way back in September 2022, when Rockstar suffered a data breach that saw dozens of in-development gameplay videos make their way online. After acknowledging the unfortunate leak, the studio remained tight-lipped about the project until the very first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was released in December 2023. At the time, Rockstar was aiming for a Fall 2025 release window, before delaying the highly anticipated title to May 26, 2026. Sadly, the delays didn't stop there, as Grand Theft Auto 6's release date was once again pushed back, this time to November 19, 2026. While it would be unprecedented for Rockstar to delay the game for a third time, many are beginning to doubt that gaming's biggest release will be ready to go by the end of the year.
Forget Vice City, This Classic Gem is the Only Game You Need to Play Before GTA 6 Releases
Instead of replaying GTA: Vice City to prepare for GTA 6, this classic title is a better appetizer for Rockstar's upcoming game.
GTA 6 Reportedly Not Content Ready
With doubts about Grand Theft Auto 6's 2026 release date continuing to grow, journalist Jason Schreier has added even more fuel to the fire during a recent episode of Button Mash. "The last I heard, it was still not content complete," the Bloomberg journalist revealed. He then goes on to explain, "That is to say that people are still finishing things up, still finalizing levels and missions, and seeing what's going to make it into the game." Schreier then says that content will hopefully be completed soon, and then Rockstar will have "a whole bunch of time" for bug fixing.
The journalist, who has a proven track record when it comes to all things Grand Theft Auto 6, then admitted that it's "really hard to say right now" as to whether Rockstar will have the game ready in time for its November 19 release date. "I don't think anyone at Rockstar could tell you with 100% certainty that they will make it out in November," he says. But, with that being said, Schreier does admit that the game's current release date does feel more "real" than Fall 2025 and May 2026. He explains how employees were skeptical of the May 2026 release date when it was announced, but now the feeling among the developers is that November is a little more "solid."
The wait between Grand Theft Auto 6's first and second trailers was excruciatingly long for fans, as Rockstar did not give the community a shred of news for over 500 days. As of writing, it has now been 247 days since the release of Trailer 2, which arrived alongside tons of screenshots in May 2025. With many eager to see more from the highly anticipated title, some are speculating that February 3 could be a big day for Grand Theft Auto 6, as this is when the next quarterly earnings call for Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, will take place.
Although it's unlikely for any substantial news to be shared during the call, Rockstar has been known to release trailers or announce delays shortly before these calls take place. Given that it has now been 8 months since the release of Grand Theft Auto 6's second trailer, fans are speculating that Rockstar could release a third trailer around the same time as Take-Two's earnings call next month. However, there's also the possibility that, if a third delay is on the cards, news regarding a potential 2027 release date could be shared too.
