The newly-released Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer has left fans with plenty to talk about, including a hidden detail in which playable protagonist Lucia is wearing an ankle monitor. Rockstar Games posted the trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 early, giving eager players their first official look at the next installment of the massively successful open-world crime franchise.

The Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer has confirmed many rumors and leaks surrounding the game since it was first confirmed in early 2022, such as it taking place in the popular Vice City setting of past GTA installments. Additionally, Grand Theft Auto 6 will star two playable characters in the form of Lucia and her yet-unnamed boyfriend, an outlaw couple that has often been compared to Bonnie and Clyde by leakers and online forums before the trailer's release. Lucia in particular is noteworthy for being the first playable female character in the long-running Grand Theft Auto series, and fans are naturally curious to find out more about her during the long wait for GTA 6’s 2025 launch.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Could Be Skipping PC at Launch

Rockstar hints that GTA 6 will be skipping PC at launch shortly after being forced to reveal the much-anticipated game earlier than planned.

A Grand Theft Auto-centric Twitter account by the handle of GTABase.com took note of a small detail while re-watching the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, and posted a screenshot of said detail for fans to discover and speculate on. In one brief moment, Lucia appears to be wearing an ankle monitor, which in the real world is used to track prisoners who are given house arrest. GTABase.com wonders if this will have some sort of impact on gameplay during the beginning of Grand Theft Auto 6, with Lucia not able to travel outside of a certain radius early on.

Open-world games like Grand Theft Auto sometimes lock players in a certain section of the map until they learn the ropes or reach a certain point in the story, and Lucia’s apparent ankle monitor could be GTA 6’s way of slowly unlocking its massive map with a solid in-universe explanation as to why she can’t leave a certain area at the start of the game. Sure enough, Grand Theft Auto 6’s reveal trailer shows Lucia talking with a correctional officer, suggesting that the game will begin with her under house arrest or parole of some kind for her past crimes.

Lucia will likely violate the terms of this agreement once she reunites with her apparent boyfriend, who has been referred to as Jason in past GTA 6 leaks. There are still many unanswered questions about Grand Theft Auto 6’s plot, which is already breaking the mold of previous entries thanks to its criminal power couple and playable female lead. Fans will have plenty of time to scan the recent trailer for more clues like Lucia’s ankle monitor, as the next installment of the infamous GTA franchise isn’t set to hit stores for another two years.
