Rockstar Games has officially unveiled the next major Grand Theft Auto Online update, but fans believe the studio could be using the opportunity to test a new feature ahead of its implementation in Grand Theft Auto 6. While there has been no word on whether or not Grand Theft Auto 6 will usher in a new era of Grand Theft Auto Online, it seems highly likely, and now fans believe a key upgrade could be about to be tested in the upcoming 'A Safehouse in the Hills' update.
The wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 has been a long and painful one for fans, and it just got a little bit longer. While the next entry in the series was initially set to launch in Fall 2025, Rockstar Games pushed the launch to May 26, 2026. This delay didn't come as much of a surprise, given the studio's track record, but speculation quickly began about whether Grand Theft Auto 6 would be delayed yet again. These theories and rumors were then confirmed by Rockstar when it announced yet another delay earlier this month. If all goes well and there are no further delays, Grand Theft Auto 6 will now launch on November 19, 2026.

GTA Online's December Update May Be Testing a Grand Theft Auto 6 Feature
As Grand Theft Auto 6 is still a year away from release, there has been no confirmation from Rockstar regarding a potential Grand Theft Auto Online 2. Most fans are assuming that, similar to Grand Theft Auto 5, the next entry in the series will also launch with its own standalone Online component. If that's the case, there will likely be a huge number of upgrades and improvements, one of which could be about to be implemented in Grand Theft Auto Online. The next update is set to release in December, adding purchasable mansions to the game, which fans believe will eliminate the loading screen usually required to enter the property.
In a new post on Reddit, one user speculated that Grand Theft Auto Online's big Mansions update, officially known as 'A Safehouse in the Hills', may test accessible interiors without loading screens. Currently, GTA Online's apartments can only be accessed by sitting through a loading screen, as there is no seamless transition from the outside world to owned properties. "I'm wondering if separate players in one lobby that own the same mansion will disappear to each other once in the same zone 'the new mansion in this case' so they can access their mansion from the outside without having the other players owning it from appearing in theirs," the user speculated.
This is something that fans are eager to see for Grand Theft Auto 6 Online, as one user chimed in to say that one of their main requests is for Rockstar to "completely remove or strongly reduce the loading screens between the outside world and interiors." While Grand Theft Auto 5's single-player doesn't require a loading screen when entering a safe house, Grand Theft Auto Online is a little trickier, as multiple players can own the same property. If Rockstar does manage to achieve the removal of loading screens, there's a strong chance it's implemented into the next iteration of Grand Theft Auto Online.
This also wouldn't be the first time that Rockstar has seemingly backported content from Grand Theft Auto 6 to GTA Online. Numerous clothing items that have appeared in official Grand Theft Auto 6 images and trailers have been spotted inside of GTA Online over the last few months. Data miners also discovered that one item in particular shares data with Red Dead Redemption 2 rather than Grand Theft Auto 5, suggesting it was likely developed for Grand Theft Auto 6.
