A new PlayStation post showcasing the upcoming games for 2026 has got me and others seriously concerned about a potential third Grand Theft Auto 6 release date delay. While the highly anticipated title is still 11 months away from being released, Grand Theft Auto 6 will undoubtedly be the biggest game of the year, which is why gamers have been left baffled by PlayStation's decision to leave it out of its 2026 promotional video.

The wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 is almost over, but it's been a long and gruelling one. After Grand Theft Auto 5 became one of the most successful games of all time, it didn't take long before fans started to question when the next installment would arrive. However, Rockstar had other ideas as it would then go on to launch the also massively successful Red Dead Redemption 2, while continuing to support Grand Theft Auto 5's live service counterpart, Grand Theft Auto Online. With the online multiplayer game bringing in enormous profits for the studio, it's no surprise that fans have been left waiting for over a decade to see a new entry in the series. Even after all these years, Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to surpass huge sales milestones, as Take-Two Interactive says the title has sold more than 220 million copies as of November 2025.

GTA 6 Is Noticeably Absent From PlayStation's 2026 Post

As of right now, Grand Theft Auto 6 is a 2026 title. However, undoubtedly the biggest release of next year has, for some reason, been left absent from PlayStation's latest post, which is supposed to be promoting the biggest PS5 games of 2026. As one would expect, PlayStation 5 exclusives such as Marvel's Wolverine and Saros are present in the trailer, as well as third-party titles like 007 First Light, Resident Evil Requiem, and even Halo Campaign Evolved. But for an unknown reason, PlayStation has avoided putting Grand Theft Auto 6 among the 2026 releases. Is it because they know something we don't? Or, the more likely option, do they just have no faith that it will actually be released next year?

Fans were quick to point out the bizarre absence of Grand Theft Auto 6, with many of the responses simply questioning, "Where is GTA 6?" One user even replied saying, "Yeah, it seems that this is getting delayed to 2027," followed by the Grand Theft Auto 6 logo. Of course, the lack of Grand Theft Auto 6 in the video is concerning, but it's unlikely that PlayStation actually knows whether or not the title will be delayed for a third time this far out. As there are still 11 months to go until its current release date, even Rockstar is unlikely to know if GTA 6 needs further development time right now.

Given Rockstar's history of delays and the long development time between its titles, Grand Theft Auto 6 being pushed back into 2027 would be massively disappointing, but not surprising. The highly anticipated release was initially targeting a Fall 2025 launch, but almost nobody expected this to be realistic. As expected, Rockstar delayed the launch to May 26, 2026, which seemed far more feasible. But then rumors and leaks began to circulate that suggested another Grand Theft Auto 6 release date delay was imminent. The studio then made the news official and confirmed it would be pushing the title back to November 19, 2026.

When it came to Grand Theft Auto 5, Rockstar only delayed the game by a few months. But Red Dead Redemption 2 was a very different story. The prequel to Red Dead Redemption was initially due to launch in Fall 2017, was pushed back to Spring 2018, and finally launched on October 26, 2018. Grand Theft Auto 6 has now followed a similar timeline of delays, but if the studio pushes it back to 2027, it will be the first Rockstar game to be delayed three times. Here's hoping the studio doesn't make that jump into uncharted waters.
