Summary

  • Grand Theft Auto 6 is still on track for a 2025 release, with no internal talks of a delay according to Rockstar employees.
  • Recent rumors of GTA 6 being pushed to 2026 have been debunked by reliable sources like Jason Schreier.
  • While no delay is currently planned, things can always change in the future due to GTA 6's ambitious nature.

Grand Theft Auto 6 appears to be on course to meet its 2025 release window, at least for now, with some Rockstar Games employees reportedly confirming there have been no internal talks of a delay. This news comes on the heels of recent rumors that claimed GTA 6 had been pushed ahead into 2026.

Being the successor to GTA 5, which is one of the most successful games in history, GTA 6 has naturally grown to become a highly anticipated title over the years. The fact that publisher Rockstar Games has taken its fair share of time, having released the last mainline GTA game way back in 2013, has further starved fans of the developer's brand of open-world crime saga. Since GTA 6's first trailer came out last December, announcing a 2025 release, there have been a few scares along the way that had GTA fans worried the game may be hit with a possible delay. The latest such rumor making rounds online now seems to have been dealt with, thanks to a new report.

As revealed by Jason Schreier on Twitter, six Rockstar Games employees have confirmed to him that they "have not heard of any delay" for GTA 6, quashing newly surfaced rumors. The recent delay scare was fueled by Twitter user billsyliamgta's now-deleted tweet that the console versions of the action-adventure game had been postponed to "early to mid-2026," based on the alleged accounts of "multiple devs across two studios." The leaker had also said that a PC port was planned to happen "around 12 to 18 months" after the initial launch. However, Schreier has now strongly put an end to speculation by calling the rumored delay "nonsense."

GTA 6 Release Plans on Track for Now, But Things May Change Later

While a delay may not be on the cards as of now, there is always a chance of release plans changing in the future, especially with big-budget AAA games of GTA 6's scale. Schreier acknowledged this perpetual risk, asserting that Rockstar's title is a "big, ambitious game" and that it could "very well slip." He added that there's still plenty of time "to say anything definitive." Moreover, he highlighted that there being no knowledge of a delay within the organization shines light on the inaccuracy of the ongoing rumor.

Based on recent developments, it seems more likely that GTA 6 is on track for its targeted release window than the opposite. Last month, Rockstar Games parent Take-Two released its financial report, clearly stating that the game was scheduled to release in Fall 2025. Unless things have changed drastically in a short time, there is little reason to believe any delay rumors for the time being.

With all that said, fans can look forward to an exciting 2025 calendar filled with major game releases. Headlined by the next chapter in the GTA franchise, Take-Two's own slate features multiple noteworthy games, including Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country, set to come out next year.
