Eagle-eyed Grand Theft Auto 6 fans have spotted a subtle nod to 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in a new screenshot for the upcoming title, which was released alongside a new trailer on May 6. With Grand Theft Auto 6 set to take fans back to the neon-kissed streets of Vice City, fans are already dissecting the latest trailer and screenshots to find as many easter eggs and references as possible, with one in particular seemingly paying homage to an iconic character.
After revisiting Liberty City and Los Santos in Grand Theft Auto 4 and 5, Rockstar Games is finally taking fans back to Vice City with the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6. Although there have been references to the location over the years, Vice City hasn't been featured in a mainline GTA game since 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. After surprising fans with a brand-new trailer on May 6, Rockstar Games divulged even more information on all of the main areas featured in Grand Theft Auto 6. From Vice City and Leonida Keys to Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga, it looks like the next GTA game is going to have a ton of different locations for players to explore.
GTA 6's New Trailer Proves One Classic Grand Theft Auto Feature is Here to Stay
The second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally here, and it confirms that a long-held franchise tradition is set to continue.
New GTA 6 Screenshot Has a Vice City Easter Egg
As the first mainline entry in the series to revisit Vice City since 2002's GTA: Vice City, it's no surprise that Rockstar has included some subtle nods and easter eggs to the classic title in Grand Theft Auto 6. As spotted by Twitter user Synth Potato, Jason Duval, one of Grand Theft Auto 6's two main protagonists, can be seen in a new screenshot rocking the classic blue shirt with palm trees. The iconic shirt is a clear throwback to Tommy Vercetti from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, who donned the palm trees shirt for much of the game.
With almost 3 minutes of new footage and 70 new screenshots, there are likely many references and easter eggs to past titles. One that fans were also quick to pick up on was a returning character from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. During the newest trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, an advert for an ammunition store can be seen playing on the television. The advert appears to confirm the return of Phil Cassidy, an arms dealer seen in various other GTA games, such as Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
While the latest trailer and screenshot dump have given fans a ton of new details on the highly anticipated release, it's sadly going to be quite some time until gamers get to jump into the next GTA game. Just last week, Rockstar Games confirmed the disappointing news that Grand Theft Auto 6 had been delayed to May 26, 2026. The next entry in the series was initially targeting a Fall 2025 release window, but the studio says it needs extra time to deliver the level of quality that fans expect from a Rockstar Games title.
