A new rumor suggests the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 could be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on the same day as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. At the time of writing, Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Series X/S, with no word from Rockstar on a potential PC release. But if a new rumor is to be believed, the studio could be putting its resources into a Switch 2 port instead of a highly requested PC version.
This isn't the first time that rumors of a potential Grand Theft Auto 6 Switch 2 port have made the rounds on social media. Back in November, shortly after the game's most recent delay, numerous industry insiders claimed that developer Rockstar Games was testing the console's potential to see whether it was feasible to release the next installment in the series on Nintendo's newest console. Apparently, these tests had no connection to the second release date delay, which pushed Grand Theft Auto 6 back from May of this year to November. While Rockstar itself has made no such indication that it plans to release the title on the Switch 2, rumors of a potential port being tested continue to circulate.
One Country is Already Threatening to Ban GTA 6, Which Would Make It Inaccessible to Millions of Gamers
Grand Theft Auto 6 faces a potential ban in one major country, potentially cutting off access to Rockstar's next big game for millions.
GTA 6 May Come to Nintendo Switch 2 on Day One
It's been two months since Rockstar shared any official news about its next title, but that hasn't stopped the Grand Theft Auto 6 rumors from swirling. The most recent one comes from content creator and interviewer, Kiwi Talkz, who recently suggested that one of their trusted sources from India believes Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on the day and date that it launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Assuming there are no further delays, that would mean the title would arrive on Nintendo's newest piece of hardware on November 19, 2026. However, Kiwi Talkz does doubt the validity of this claim. Although they say their source is often reliable, they also state, "No other source I know and no one I know at Rockstar has said anything either," which casts doubts on the claim.
Many are doubtful that a title such as Grand Theft Auto 6 could run on the Nintendo Switch 2, but that isn't to say it's completely impossible. While the console itself is far less powerful than the likes of the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, it does have some pretty substantial third-party games available. Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy, for example, are two massive open-world games with stunning graphics, yet both are able to run on the Nintendo Switch 2 easily. For now, however, these claims remain unverified, as Rockstar has only confirmed the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S as day one releases.
This rumor comes shortly after journalist Jason Schreier claimed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is still not content complete. The insider, who has a solid track record when it comes to Grand Theft Auto 6, says its too soon to tell if another delay is on the cards at Rockstar, claimed that the studio is still developing new content and that it has yet to enter the bug fixing phase of development. However, the good news is that this isn't anything out of the ordinary, as there are still 10 months left to go, giving the studio plenty of time to finish things up.
Schreier also elaborated on a previous statement that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be like a PS5 exclusive. The journalist explains that while the title, obviously, isn't a PS5 exclusive, it is being treated as one by Sony. The company reportedly doesn't want to release any of its first-party titles anywhere near Grand Theft Auto 6, which means there's no chance the highly anticipated Marvel's Wolverine will release in the same month.
