The second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally here, and one fan has spotted a small detail that many others missed, which may connect the upcoming title with Red Dead Redemption 2's universe. While fans had previously believed that the Grand Theft Auto series was set in a separate universe from Red Dead Redemption, many are now questioning if that really is the case after a vital piece of information was spotted in Grand Theft Auto 6's second trailer.
On May 6, Rockstar Games ended its 500+ days of silence and finally released the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 and 70 new screenshots. The trailer, along with further details on Rockstar's website, revealed new information surrounding Jason, Lucia, and the game's story. Set in Vice City, USA, Jason and Lucia find themselves "on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America" after an easy score goes wrong. The two protagonists are forced to rely on each other as a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida unfolds before them.
Grand Theft Auto 6's New Trailer Emphasizes Its Most Interesting Trait Above All Else
Rockstar has finally revealed a new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, and the spotlight is all on dual protagonists Jason and Lucia.
GTA 6 Trailer 2 Hints at Red Dead Redemption 2 Connection
Fans have already discovered multiple references and easter eggs in Grand Theft Auto 6's second trailer, but one eagle-eyed viewer has picked up on a tiny detail that may have just connected the title to Red Dead Redemption 2. Reddit user cph2001 took to the GTA 6 subreddit shortly after Trailer 2 dropped and shared their discovery with fellow fans. At 2 minutes and 7 seconds into the trailer, an NPC is making it rain $10 bills, which appear to include Presidents from Red Dead Redemption 2. Both Thaddeus Waxman and Franklin Hardin, who were Presidents within the Red Dead universe, can be seen on the currency in Grand Theft Auto 6.
This discovery has sparked a huge debate among fans, as some believe it means the two universes are connected. Reddit user Jhonny_781 says they are "willing to cope" and believe that Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption are set in the same universe. However, not everyone is convinced that's the case. Many other users believe this is nothing more than an easter egg as Red Dead Redemption references New York and California, whereas the Grand Theft Auto universe refers to these locations as Liberty City and San Andreas.
If previous Rockstar Games titles are anything to go by, Grand Theft Auto 6 will likely feature a ton of different e aster eggs and references to Red Dead Redemption, Bully, and more. Whether or not the references qualify as evidence that connects the universes remains a topic for debate.
Unfortunately, fans still have over a year to go until they can get their hands on the next GTA game. Last week, prior to the release of Trailer 2, Rockstar Games confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 had been delayed. The highly anticipated title was initially targeting a Fall 2025 release window, but as the months continued to roll by with no news, many had speculated that a delay was inevitable. Grand Theft Auto 6 will now launch on May 26, 2026.
