Fans are drawing an interesting new theory about how Grand Theft Auto 6’s Wanted System will work. Ever since Rockstar officially announced it last year, much of the gaming world has been buzzing about the long-awaited and highly anticipated title. So far, it has been confirmed that the game will take place in the Florida-inspired state of Leonida, the home of Grand Theft Auto’s iconic Vice City. Grand Theft Auto 6 will also star two playable protagonists in the form of Lucia and her yet-unnamed male partner.

This criminal duo will likely get into all manner of law-breaking hijinks in Grand Theft Auto 6, as per the tradition of Rockstar’s record-breaking and controversial open-world franchise. In past GTA games, the level of carnage a player caused was measured by the Wanted System, which adds stars to the player’s score as they wreak havoc. As the star level increases, law enforcement becomes even more determined to capture the player, escalating from simple patrol cars to military tanks and other high-grade weaponry.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Returning Character Wish List

While it's expected to bring its own new cast of characters, Grand Theft Auto 6 would also benefit from featuring certain tasteful callbacks.

The Wanted System is almost certainly returning in Grand Theft Auto 6, and some gamers have theorized an intriguing new mechanic to increase the level of realism in Rockstar’s next open-world blockbuster. Reddit user clevererest_username recently noted that in the highly-viewed Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal trailer, Lucia and her partner are shown fleeing from the scene of a crime. A cop car seemingly drives past them without incident, leading the user to wonder if the police won’t recognize the player as the suspect they are after in the early Wanted System rankings.

Cops Might Have to Identify Wanted Suspects in Grand Theft Auto 6

In response to clevererest_username’s theory, another Reddit user pointed to a past Grand Theft Auto 6 leak in which the player is notified about the police identifying the vehicle used in a robbery at a diner. Other users have built on the idea of the police going by a vehicle description for the Wanted System by recalling rumors about masks being used to hide the player’s identity and speculating about how switching vehicles when authorities aren’t looking could bring the star ranking down.

This would certainly add a new level of realism to Grand Theft Auto 6’s police chases, as the law enforcement in past games seemed to automatically know who to pursue once the first Wanted System star was handed out. Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently set to launch sometime this year, so eager gamers might not have to wait too much longer for more information about the upcoming sequel’s law-breaking gameplay.
