Peyote is a certain type of hallucinogenic cactus that has been used by Native Americans for many hundreds of years and was popularized in the West by the writings of Carlos Castaneda. In GTA 5, players are able to collect and consume peyote specimens, which will temporarily grant them an animal form - much like the effects described by Castaneda. The plants are very small and can be difficult to spot, though they can be identified by their spherical shape and petaled flowers coming out of the top.
The plants will not be available all year round and tend to only appear in conjunction with special in-game events. In total, there are 76 possible peyote locations in GTA Online, while a separate set of plants can also be found in GTA 5' s single-player mode.

Once eaten, players can transform into a variety of animals, from dolphins to mountain lions, stingrays, and sasquatches. In animal form, players will be granted unique movement and attacks, though, in safe mode, these will not work on opposing players.
