Summary
- Rockstar Games recently initiated a ban wave in GTA Online against cheaters trying to circumvent the newly implemented Battleye anti-cheat software.
- Unfortunately, this ban wave has reportedly affected many legitimate GTA Online players.
- For the time being, GTA Online players who have been unfairly banned can only appeal on Rockstar's support site for resolution.
A recent ban wave levied by Rockstar Games against cheaters in GTA Online has apparently affected a lot of innocent players as well. For several years, GTA Online has faced issues with cheaters, modders, and hackers spoiling the experience for regular players.
Rockstar has continually tried to rid GTA Online of cheaters in various ways, such as targeting websites that sell/distribute cheat menus, initiating ban waves, and adding anti-cheat systems. However, ban waves are particularly contentious within the game's community, as they often mistakenly ban legitimate GTA Online players who don't take advantage of any hacks or glitches. Many innocent players end up losing years worth of progress at times, which is extremely unfair, even more so when cheaters continue to exist in GTA Online.
GTA Online Players Can Return to Classic Location in New Halloween Mode
Rockstar Games reveals a new Halloween survival mode for Grand Theft Auto Online that will take fans back to a classic location in October.
Six months after the March 2024 ban wave that targeted high-level GTA Online players using the account duplication glitch, Rockstar has started another ban wave against players attempting to circumvent GTA Online's recently added Battleye anti-cheat system. Unfortunately, though, this wave has seemingly repeated the pattern of accidentally banning innocent accounts. Droves of GTA Online players recently took to social media and forums to report false positive bans, even though they apparently played the game legitimately.
Many GTA Online Players Receive Bans Despite Being Offline for Weeks
The situation is undoubtedly disappointing, especially for the players who invested hundreds of hours in GTA Online, only to be unjustly banned out of the blue. For those who found their GTA Online accounts banned and feel like they didn't deserve it, the only course of action right now is to appeal the ban on Rockstar's official support site and hope for a swift resolution. Rockstar has yet to officially take note of the false bans, but if all goes well, GTA Online players should regain access to their accounts sooner rather than later.
GTA Online has needed an anti-cheat watchdog for some time, so the addition of Battleye was welcome at first. After just one week, though, the anti-cheat software's implementation has clearly not been the smoothest, with it even breaking GTA Online's compatibility for Steam Deck users. Considering GTA 5 is among the top 10 most played Steam Deck games, the sudden loss of its entire online component has displeased a lot of players on the handheld gaming platform. Hopefully, Rockstar is working towards reversing the false flag bans, as well as restoring access to GTA Online for Steam Deck users.
