Summary
- GTA Online's Bottom Dollar Bounties update broke the game's iconic yellow highway paddles, changing their physics.
- Players are now unable to interact with the paddles while on foot and they no longer bounce back up after being hit by a vehicle at a reduced speed.
- It is unclear if this change was intentional by Rockstar, but fans are bothered by this minor issue with the game.
Grand Theft Auto Online players are just now realizing that the game's Bottom Dollar Bounties update, which was released back in June, has broken the iconic yellow highway paddles by changing their physics and how they can be interacted with by the player. Grand Theft Auto Online's Bottom Dollar Bounties update was another massive and completely free patch filled with new content for players to check out, but it seems to have slipped under the radar that the update also broke this iconic feature introduced in Grand Theft Auto 5.
While Grand Theft Auto 6 fans are still patiently waiting for a second trailer, GTA Online players are still making the most of the new content being added to the popular live-service title on a regular basis. There's no word on what will happen to GTA Online once GTA 6 is released, but Rockstar Games is still currently supporting the title with new updates. The last major patch came back in June with Bottom Dollar Bounties, a massive update that added new vehicles, missions, and a new bounty-hunting business for players to take charge of.
GTA-Style Game Where You Play As A Cop is Already a Big Hit on Steam
A new game with strong Grand Theft Auto vibes in which gamers play as a cop instead of a criminal is already a big hit on Steam.
GTA Online's Bottom Dollar Bounties update is now four months old, but players have just realized that the patch has "broken" the game's iconic yellow highway paddles. Twitter user Lucas7yoshi was the first to bring this controversial change to the community's attention, stating that before the update, the yellow paddles would "tilt and hinge" but now they can't even be interacted with by the player unless in a vehicle. Previously, when driven over at a reduced speed, the paddles would bounce back into place, but now they simply break off their hinges, regardless of the speed the player is going.
Grand Theft Auto Online Update Breaks Iconic GTA 5 Feature
In a follow-up tweet, the user noted that the paddles now break from any sort of contact with a vehicle, whereas they would previously require the player to hit them at a high speed for them to completely break. It's not clear whether this was an intentional change to GTA Online or Rockstar simply wasn't aware that it altered the physics behind these items, but Lucas7yoshi said they "would be extremely surprised if this was a deliberate thing."
With Rockstar now working hard to release Grand Theft Auto 6 in Fall of 2025, it's unlikely that the studio will allocate the resources to adjust such a minor bug, but it's definitely something that has bothered fans. In response to the above tweet, Chris said it "was so fun when you'd do the random drive around the map," while MarkEndless questioned where the fun of driving was if these paddles are now broken.
