A Grand Theft Auto Online player has shared a strange moment they experienced in the game, where they witnessed an NPC cop randomly steal an RC Tank. Seeing a police officer in GTA Online steal a car to begin with might be a rare occurence for some fans, but seeing one squeeze into a RC Tank is striking the community as hilarious.

Back in 2019, GTA Online introduced an RC Tank called the Invade and Persuade Tank. The vehicle is miniature, and the player doesn't climb into it to use it. Instead, it's maneuvered with a remote control, which allows players to stay in relative safety while the tank zips around Los Santos.

A detail in the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer may indicate that the game may be making it a lot harder to get avoid being detected by cops.

GTA Online Cop Takes Off in Tiny RC Tank

Now, player Alex3627ca has shared a gameplay clip where they witnessed a cop squeezing themselves into an RC Tank in an amusing moment. According to the OP, the original owner of the RC Tank disconnected from the game in the middle of a police chase. Ordinarily, this would cause the tank to despawn, but instead, it remained in place. Shortly after the clip starts, a random cop climbs into the tank, which a human being clearly wouldn't be able to ordinarily fit into. The OP chased after the tank after it drove away and bumped into another cop in the process, which triggered a single star wanted level. As a result, the tank stopped driving and began shooting at the player, further adding to the randomness of the scene.

Other GTA Online players have been quite amused to see how this all played out. Several said they were familiar with seeing cops climb into random vehicles if they lack one of their own, but not a GTA Online RC vehicle like this. The odd sighting is all the more strange to players, as those familiar with the RC Tank know that players can't actually drive it themselves the way that the police officer does. However, despite the fact that players can't physically enter an RC Tank, the player can be targeted inside of it while it's being operated, likely indicating that the game places the character there while it's being controlled.

GTA Online's Random Moments

Though this video captured a particularly amusing and unusual sight, GTA Online has had plenty of odd moments over the years. Players have documented GTA Online glitches and bugs that have broken the game in all kinds of ways, ranging from simple cosmetic glitches on the player character to GTA Online players breaking into Franklin's house, which is normally inaccessible outside of the single-player component. Players have had weird run-ins with the police in GTA Online as well, like one incident that saw a player trying to steal a police helicopter, only for it to spontaneously disappear and then fall out of the sky, crushing them. Another player recently discovered that the long-awaited mansions in GTA Online contain a potentially deadly surprise, as their character ended up being wasted while trying to lift weights.

While strange sights like a cop climbing into a toy remote-controlled tank help to keep players amused, some are more than ready to move on to what Grand Theft Auto 6 has to offer. Some kind of online component being included in GTA 6 or launching after its release is all but guaranteed, but at this point, Rockstar hasn't had much to say on the matter. GTA Online in its current form is likely still making a lot of money for the developer and Take-Two Interactive, so a lot of questions remain about how a new online GTA game could work. It's possible that GTA 6's online mode will completely replace GTA Online in time, but it may not happen right away. More will likely be revealed prior to the game's launch later in 2026, but especially given that the PC version of the game has no launch window at this time, it's probable that the current form of GTA Online will continue to exist for a while yet.
