GTA Online Finally Broke a 10-Year Tradition

Grand Theft Auto Online, GTA 5's multiplayer mode that has since become a fully self-sufficient game, is still going strong ten years after the game's release. Developer Rockstar Games has consistently given fans new content for the game, releasing at least one major update per year since the game debuted. However, in its busiest years, GTA Online received between two and eight. Not showing any signs of slowing down, GTA Online has just released another major update which includes plenty of new content, including one feature that has caught the attention of fans.

GTA Online's newest update, The Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid, brings a new operation to the game that can either be played solo or with friends. The general premise continues the plot of the previous GTA Online character, Vincent Effenburger, as he sets out to shut down an illegal narcotics operation hiding behind the recurring Grand Theft Auto fast-food restaurant, Cluckin' Bell. As always, this new update includes new gear and, more importantly, vehicles. Among the new vehicle offerings is one that has been just out of reach for players since the game's debut; the train.

What GTA Online's Newest Update Could Imply For The Future

New Features Coming To GTA Online

The Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid update for GTA Online includes a good amount of new content for the game. Along with the major story mission that has players taking down a cartel drug operation, there are several noteworthy vehicles. These include:

• Bravado Gauntlet Interceptor
• New Canis Terminus
• Train

The most noteworthy of these is the train that has previously been viewable on GTA Online's map but has never been able to be drivable until now. Ten years later, players can finally drive a train online. The situation is similar to the GTA 5 single-player mission that allows players to drive the train for a short time. In this newest update, players again have the opportunity to drive the train during the story missions. Unfortunately, it is only drivable during these missions.

The Importance Of The Drivable Train in GTA Online

Now that the train is drivable in GTA 5's online, it brings the now classic Rockstar game up to date with Red Dead 2 as far as that feature goes. With trains drivable in both games, it makes sense that GTA 6 could also feature the mechanic. Potentially, GTA 6 may even allow players to drive the train in free roam, unlike GTA Online. It seems likely that the next installment of GTA Online will have all the features of the current version and more, but it is also good to know that features can be added years later.

At this time, it remains to be seen what carries over to GTA 6 from past games. But if the progression of mechanics in Rockstar's recent releases is any indication, the level of freedom in the game will far surpass anything fans have seen before. Red Dead 2 raised the bar, and GTA Online is continuously showing what a live service GTA can be. If GTA 6 combines the best of both worlds, it will have earned the years of anticipation leading up to it and more.
