How to Get Mk II Weapons in GTA Online (& What They Do)
In order to get Mk II weapons in GTA Online, you will need to own a Weapon Workshop. You can get a Weapon Workshop for free via The Freakshop, which is unlocked after you head to Sandy Shores to visit the Ron Jakowski icon, where you can then complete Dax missions to unlock The Freakshop. Once you have access to The Freakshop, you can find the Weapon Workshop inside, entirely for free.
The Weapon Workshop will allow you to bypass the level requirement for certain weapons so that you can purchase them from as early as Rank 1. You can also use the Weapon Workshop to upgrade weapons to their Mk II variants. Mk II weapons have upgraded stats and unique attachments, like different ammo types, gun barrels, and scopes.
Alternatively, you can purchase the Weapon Workshop as part of these businesses, but this is a more costly approach, whereas The Freakshop is entirely free. Therefore, we recommend unlocking The Freakshop and avoiding the hefty payouts below:
- Mobile Operation Center: $1,225,000 for the MOC and $245,000 for the Weapon Workshop upgrade. This requires a Bunker, with the cheapest being $1,165,000 in Paleto Forest. This will set you back $2,635,000 in total.
- The Avenger: $3,425,000 for the Avenger and $245,000 for the Weapon Workshop upgrade. This requires a Facility, with the cheapest being $1,250,000 in Paleto Bay. This will set you back $4,920,000 in total.
- The Terrorbyte: $1,375,000 for the Terrorbyte and $245,000 for the Weapon Workshop upgrade. This requires a Nightclub, with the cheapest being $1,080,000 in Elysian Island. This will set you back $2,700,000 in total.

How to Get Mk II Weapon Upgrades in GTA Online
Once you purchase an Mk II weapon in GTA Online, you'll find that most of the exciting and powerful attachments are actually locked. Y ou can only unlock attachments for the Mk II weapons via Bunker Research. This means that you'll need to purchase a Bunker, and then access the Laptop inside to select Manage Staff and select Assign Staff To Research. This will allow your Supplies to convert to Research Progress, which takes around 4 hours with full supplies.
Alternatively, you can spend around $225,000 to complete a research project fast. Unfortunately, there are 48 research tasks to complete, and the task you obtain is completely random, so you might be waiting around for a while until you get a weapon upgrade that you desire. Simply keep your Bunker stocked with supplies to research tasks passively while you're online, complete Agent 14 missions from his contact on the phone to speed it up, or pay cash to finish research tasks instantly, provided you have the finances to afford it.
You can purchase Mk II ammo from the Weapon Workshop or the Interactive Menu underneath the Health and Ammo option. However, for special ammo types, you can only purchase ammo from the Weapons Workshop.
