Players new to GTA Online may not know about Passive Mode, but it is a handy feature for countering griefers. Keeping this in mind, this guide will cover everything there is to know about Passive Mode in GTA Online and how gamers can disable it when they want to.

What is Passive Mode in GTA Online?

When Passive Mode is enabled, your avatar will become invulnerable. This feature is great for players who do not want to deal with griefers attempting to kill their avatar repeatedly, and it also prevents them from attacking others.

Passive Mode was also carried forward to Red Dead Redemption 2, taking the name "Friendly Free Roam."

How to Turn On/Off Passive Mode in GTA Online

To turn on/off Passive Mode in GTA Online, follow these simple steps:

Access the Interaction Menu (M on the Keyboard for a PC, the View button on an Xbox controller, and left on the Directional Pad on a PlayStation controller).
Scroll Down.
Enable/Disable Passive Mode.

Passive Mode is unavailable in weaponized vehicles.

Aside from the Interaction Menu, you can enable or disable Passive Mode from the Pause Menu by following these steps:

Select Online.
Select Options.
Enable/Disable Passive Mode.

It is worth noting that when you turn off Passive Mode, there is a five-minute cooldown before you can use it again. The feature will also not be available for some time if you have killed another player. Since the feature prevents players from ruining the game for others who wish to avoid violence, it will be here to stay and will most likely make its way to GTA 6.
