A Grand Theft Auto Online player has discovered that their brand-new mansion holds a deadly surprise after their character ended up dying using one of its new features. GTA Online players who have bought a new mansion or are planning on doing so should be aware of this potential issue, but most will likely see it as an amusement rather than an actual threat.
Players have been asking for mansions in GTA Online for years, and Rockstar Games finally acquiesced to the frequent request. Though players were previously able to acquire high-rise apartments, penthouses, and homes, fans wanted to acquire something a bit more opulent to spend their hard-earned in-game cash on. The new mansions have included numerous advantages in addition to simply owning an impressive home, including added security, a gym, and even a car podium to display one's favorite vehicle on.
Grand Theft Auto Online Releases Big Update for December 2025
Grand Theft Auto Online players have a major new content update to check out for December 2025, as Rockstar Games releases 'A Safehouse in the Hills'.
GTA Online Mansion Update Comes With a Threat
Those who could already afford a mansion in-game have been exploring everything that it has to offer, and it seems that one of those added features comes with an unexpected danger. The new mansion includes a gym, which can help the player to raise their strength in GTA Online by using the exercise options there. Players have found it to be a helpful shortcut, but going too far with it can become deadly. As pointed out by a player called TheEagle-1 on Reddit, pushing a player character to perform too many bench presses can actually kill them.
In the clip, the player's character can be seen beginning to struggle as they reach 92 reps of bench presses, with the action becoming wobblier and more strained. After completing the 94th rep, the player character's arms give out and the bar drops back down onto them, with a wasted screen appearing telling the player that they've overexerted themselves. Those in the comments have had mixed experiences with it, with some saying that they went far past this point with their own character without any issues, though that may be due to their strength being higher, or just a matter of random chance. Others have simply joked that this was bound to happen due to the character doing bench presses without anyone spotting them.
Thankfully, getting wasted in Grand Theft Auto Online while in one's own home comes with no major disadvantages, as it will typically just send the player to the closest bed for a quick respawn. In addition to being able to raise one's strength stat quickly by using the gym equipment, players can also take advantage of a number of other bonuses, like speeding up production at their businesses and a Master Control Terminal that lets users monitor everything they own. Players can also completely remove the possibility of their businesses being raided by purchasing the security upgrade for their business and for their mansion.
However, the most exciting part for many fans is the addition of its attached quest line, including the mission Home Sweet Home, which brings back GTA 5 protagonist Michael De Santa. Players have been wanting to see the last of the original protagonists again in the online mode. Though players were disappointed to learn that Trevor's GTA 5 DLC was canceled, he does make an appearance in the game, and Franklin notably returned in 2021's The Contract update for GTA Online. Though it's taken an extra four years, now the entire single-player playable cast is back in the online campaign.
For now, it remains to be seen where GTA Online goes from here. With nearly another full year to go before GTA 6 finally releases, gamers will likely still be engaged in GTA Online until at least then.
