Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto Online players will soon be able to return to North Yankton, the iconic location that was a part of Grand Theft Auto 5's prologue. Even though Rockstar Games is gearing up for the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 in Fall 2025, new Grand Theft Auto Online content updates are still released regularly by the studio. While fans generally praise the developer for its exciting new updates, Rockstar found itself in hot water with Grand Theft Auto Online's Steam Deck community after the live-service title was made unplayable on the device due to a new anti-cheat update. Although many believe the new system was much needed, it led to a sharp drop in the concurrent number of players, likely due to all devices with a Linux operating system no longer being able to play.

Now players will be able to return as Rockstar says a new survival mode is coming in October that will take place in North Yankton’s Ludendorff Cemetery.
Rockstar Reveals New Survival Mode for GTA Online
The upcoming Halloween mode likely won't come as a surprise to many, as an update to Grand Theft Auto Online back in June included in-game files with animations and the North Yankton Cemetery in which the mode will take place. According to data miners, the mode will see players take on wave after wave of Zombies in this new Halloween mode. It's unclear exactly when it will be released, but Rockstar has urged players to be on the lookout for "all kinds of surprises" throughout October, including the brand-new North Yankton survival mode.
It's currently unknown what Rockstar intends to do with its popular live service title when the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise is released next year, but after eleven years of new content updates, there's the possibility that this could be the final Halloween update for Grand Theft Auto Online.
