Halloween arrives in Grand Theft Auto Online as the multiplayer game's latest update delivers a variety of spooky content, including a vehicle that is suspiciously close to the Ghostbusters' Ecto-1. Included in the GTA Online Halloween update, players can expect to find three new scary modes, a mission to photograph ghosts, bonus GTA$ and RP rewards, and some free loot, too. GTA Online players may want to skip saying "Trick or Treat," though, or else they may become ghosts themselves.
While it's true that updates for GTA Online are becoming increasingly rare, Rockstar always seems to show up for Halloween each year. Halloween 2022 delivered a rare sasquatch outfit to players and plenty of UFOs. In 2021, Halloween delivered phantom cars and wandering slashers. And every Halloween even seems to have plenty of options for bonus rewards, a lucrative benefit for GTA Online players courageous enough to take on the horrors found in free mode.
Grand Theft Auto Online Update Teases GTA 6
Rockstar Games blatantly teases Grand Theft Auto 6 in the latest update for the online multiplayer game GTA Online.
This year's Halloween has a lot for GTA Online fans to be excited about. That starts with the addition of a brand-new vehicle, the Albany Brigham muscle car. It can be purchased from the Southern San Andreas Super Autos shop, or acquired for free at the Vinewood Car Club for GTA+ members. While it looks great on its own, the Albany Brigham takes on a special appearance with the Ghosts Exposed livery, earned by photographing specific apparitions. The car looks eerily like the Ghostbusters' Ecto-1, though not too close, for obvious legal reasons.
On top of the Ghosts Exposed photo hunt, there is also a trio of new Halloween Deathmatches to play in GTA Online. Drop Dead is a team deathmatch mode where the living faces off against the dead in asymmetric combat. Suck It Up tasks players with dealing damage to opponents to heal themselves. Lastly, Damned and Lose is a free-for-all deathmatch set in a maze with no mini-map blips. All three modes have double GTA$ and RP, or 4x for GTA+ members.
There's a lot more in the update even behind the Albany Brigham and Deathmatches, of course. There are wandering possessed animals that will attack on-sight and transform when provoked, phantom cars and UFOs are back, and Business Battles task players to steal spaceship parts from Fort Zancudo. Those collecting Halloween masks can get them through completing various missions. Plus, various Halloween props have been added to the GTA Online Job Creator.
GTA Online's Halloween 2023 update is available now, so players can dive in and check in all the new content at their leisure. While a lot of what's available is recycled from previous Halloweens, this year does seem to have some surprisingly fresh offerings. Expect Halloween to stick around in GTA Online through the holiday and into November.
Grand Theft Auto Online is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
