A motivated Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas fan spent hours recreating the game’s map in Cities: Skylines, complete with every neighborhood and iconic place from hit 2004 game. Cities: Skylines offers the flexibility to build almost any kind of city, and this dedicated player took advantage of the game’s features to bring back popular places from GTA San Andreas.
Cities: Skylines came out in 2015, and ever since its original release players have been creating cities of all sizes, from small villages to gigantic megalopolis filled with skyscrapers. Cities: Skylines comes with various features to build cities and make sure their inhabitants are happy and healthy, from urban planning tools to create entire neighborhoods to the placement of public transportation and lush parks between buildings. Through the years, Cities: Skylines added more building options and improved gameplay features with various expansion packs, from day and night cycles to new buildings and additional options to tweak the game’s economy.
An inspired GTA San Andreas fan known as Zocom7 on Reddit recreated the game’s map in Cities: Skylines, spending hours replicating all key locations from the game. Zocom7 shared various pictures of this project on Reddit, including a view of downtown San Fierro, with downtown Los Santos and Las Venturas in the distance, an overview of the total map, and closer shots of the iconic Grove Street. Zocom7 explained that this was their second attempt at recreating GTA San Andreas in this city-building game, this time using all the Cities: Skylines expansions. This city had a population of over 170,000 with 76% of traffic, making it not only a faithful reproduction of the original GTA San Andreas map but also a functioning city to play in Cities: Skylines.
In the comments to this Reddit post, players immediately recognized the popular setting of GTA San Andreas. They complimented Zocom7 on this creation, who explained having regrets as they couldn’t create the perfect cul-de-sac for GTA San Andreas’ Grove Street. Cities: Skylines had a mod to create those, but the recent game updates prevented this mod to work properly. They also explained how the Las Venturas airport and Los Santos international airport were not actual airports, but a combination of various buildings to make them look like the airports from GTA San Andreas. Only metro rail, train, tram, trolley, and tour buses were used in this city, with no public buses, taxis and post office trucks to prevent traffic jams.
While this creation is impressive, players will soon be able to build even better cities with the upcoming release of Cities: Skylines 2. While Cities: Skylines 2's map is smaller than previously believed, the game comes with a variety of new features, with improved transportation and economic systems, as well as additional customization options.
Cities: Skylines is currently available on PC, macOS, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
