Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition launched just a few days ago and it looks like fans are not happy with the release. Players have been posting negative reviews for the game on Metacritic, which has resulted in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy having an unbelievably low user score.
The critic score fares a lot better, but it is still far lower than Rockstar’s standards. Despite being published by Rockstar Games, GTA Trilogy has actually been developed by Grove Street Games. Fans have a lot of complaints regarding this release, but some of the issues, like the rain effects, go beyond what anyone could have conceived.
A post on Reddit shows the ridiculous nature of the rain effects that are present in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition. As seen in the video, the rain makes it extremely difficult to see what is going on the screen. In this case, the user can barely see the road in front of them, and narrowly misses an oncoming car. Thanks to the thunder and lightning, the player can get a small glimpse of the ground, but they ultimately decide that it is just not worth the effort to ride a bicycle in these conditions.
Another video shows that the rain effects in the GTA Trilogy are most probably bugged. While the rain looks fine at first glance, the problem is that the character is standing indoors. As the camera pans upwards, players can see that the user is inside a garage, and the rain is somehow coming through the ceiling.
Rockstar Games is known for its obsessive attention to detail in games like 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2. Therefore, fans have been left extremely confused and disappointed by this release. Even though GTA Trilogy is not developed by Rockstar, it is still shocking to see the game launch in this state.
Fans on PC were not even able to purchase Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition. The Rockstar Games Launcher was taken offline for some time, but even after it came back, players were not able to buy or play GTA Trilogy as Rockstar was removing files that were unintentionally included in this version. Thankfully, this issue has now been resolved.
A remaster of three of the most beloved games of all time seemed like a guaranteed success but this release is anything but. Due to all of its issues, fans have started to ask for refunds of their purchase of the GTA Trilogy.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is available now for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
