Summary

  • GTFO's challenging co-op shooter gameplay means choosing the right weapons before dropping into a level is important for survival.
  • With Rundown 8 released, no new weapons or levels are scheduled for GTFO, which means this ranking of weapons is complete.
  • The ALT:// Rundowns have seen the return of older weapons into the loadout pool, so players now have more choices than ever when gearing up for the challenge.

GTFO is a cooperative shooter that will test players in every way. It will test gamers' patience with its incredibly long levels. The hordes of terrifying creatures that can swarm the player's group at any time will test even the steeliest nerves. The game's difficulty, at times, will certainly test gameplay skills even for experts.

Sometimes in a game, just surviving to the end is the goal. These are the best survival horror games of all time.

Picking the best weapons available will help alleviate this game's higher-than-average difficulty level — just as picking the wrong weapons will make a rundown much more difficult (and subsequently less fun). Here are some of the best guns in GTFO.

Updated on February 11, 2024, by Jeff Drake: Fighting the abominations in GTFO is not an easy task. While it's true that most of the time creatures in this game are encountered in a dormant state, when they wake and begin swarming the player(s) things get intense. Having the right loadout of weapons is crucial for survival. Players will want a combination of weapons that deliver large amounts of damage at close-to-medium range with weapons that possess long-range abilities. Of course, ammo conservation is another important aspect players will need to factor into their weapon selection. Below are the best weapons in GTFO.

22 Bataldo Custom K330 Slug Shotgun

A Shotgun That Fires One Large Bullet Instead Of Tiny Pellets

Slug Shotgun In GTFO
  • Weapon Type: Main
  • Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 6/44
  • Damage: 21
  • Rate of Fire: Slow
  • Reload Time: 2.5 Seconds
  • Range: Medium

The Slug Shotgun is an interesting weapon and one that is probably better left to seasoned players. This is a Main Weapon, like all the other shotguns in GTFO; being a Main Weapon, the player needs to get a Special Weapon with either long range, a high rate of fire, or both.

Instead of sending out a spray of pellets like traditional shotguns, the Slug Shotgun fires one large metal slug. This delivers an extremely high amount of damage at medium range. The downside is that this weapon's range isn't great, it doesn't hold much ammo, it takes a long time to reload (compared to other weapons), and being accurate is a must. This weapon is best when the wielder can perform headshots repeatedly.

21 Koning PR 11 Sniper

Dispatch Enemies From Extreme Long Range

Using the Koning PR 11 Sniper rifle in GTFO
  • Weapon Type: Special
  • Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 3/18
  • Damage: 40.01
  • Rate of Fire: Very Low
  • Reload Time: 3.5 Seconds
  • Range: Very Long

The Koning Sniper Rifle is the weapon of extremes in GTFO. It has one of the highest damage ratings, and its range is the best in the game. This is one of the few weapons that can one-shot kill enemies without the need to score a headshot.

Unfortunately, it also has the smallest magazine and the lowest ammo capacity in the game, as well as the slowest rate of fire. This is not a primary weapon, but when it's used, it can kill the stronger enemies in the game quickly.

20 Precision Rifle

Long Range And Accurate

Precision Rifle with a thermal scope in GTFO
  • Weapon Type: Special
  • Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 8/49
  • Damage: 11.4
  • Rate of Fire: Medium
  • Reload Time: 3.3 Seconds
  • Range: Long

There are a few reasons why this is a great weapon and a few why players might want to pick something else. Players will like the fact that this is a rapid-firing rifle with great range. The thermal scope is helpful when trying to aim at enemies in low-light situations. The damage is also respectable; weaker enemies can be dispatched with one headshot.

Now for the bad news. This is a large weapon, and because of this, it can block the lower-right corner of the screen. Many players have complained that some enemies are able to sneak up on the player and deliver blows before they are seen by the player. The scope is also not the best at extreme long range. The thermal image on the scope can make it difficult to discern what part of the body is being targeted.

19 Accrat STB PDW

A Submachine Gun With A Thermal Scope

Accrat PDW assault rifle in GTFO
  • Weapon Type: Main
  • Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 32/385
  • Damage: 2.31
  • Rate of Fire: Fast
  • Reload Time: 1.4 Seconds
  • Range: Medium

Players looking for an alternate weapon to replace the standard SMG should give the Accrat PDW a try. Compared to the SMG, the PDW does more damage, fires faster, has comparable ammo counts (magazine and max ammo) and has a better flashlight. Additionally, the PDW comes with a thermal scope.

The PDW is a great all-purpose weapon thanks to its damage output, range, ammo capacity, reload time, and the ability to see in the dark via the thermal scope. This gun makes dealing with Sleepers much less of a chore, thanks to the thermal scope.

18 Hanaway PSB Double Tap Rifle

Fires In Two-Round Bursts

The Hanaway Double Tap Rifle in GTFO
  • Weapon Type: Main
  • Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 14/111
  • Damage: 5.5X2 (11)
  • Rate of Fire: Low
  • Reload Time: 2.15 Seconds
  • Range: Very Long

The Hanaway Double Tap Rifle is an excellent weapon. It boasts high damage per shot and is very efficient in terms of ammo conservation. Weaker enemies can be downed with only a couple of shots - provided one of them is a headshot.

If the player aims just below the head, the recoil should be enough to make the second round a headshot. This was left off the list originally due to this weapon not being available in the current rundown. This was an exclusive weapon for Rundown 005 and is currently available in ALT://Rundown 5.0

17 Buckland SBS III Sawed-Off Shotgun

Slow But Powerful

Guarding a corner of the room with the Sawed Off Shotgun in GTFO
  • Weapon Type: Main
  • Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 3/51
  • Damage: 23.6
  • Rate of Fire: Very Slow
  • Reload Time: 1.8 Seconds
  • Range: Very Short

The Sawed-Off Shotgun is a bit of a double-edged sword. This weapon does an impressive amount of damage to everything in the area when fired. The problem is that this weapon forces the player to get close to the enemy for it to be the most effective. With the Sawed-Off Shotgun, it is smart to have a squad member providing cover.

Allowing enemies to get close isn't too bad, though; it's what this gun is designed to do. Strikers will fall in groups after being hit by a blast from this weapon, and those that survive will be staggered. This weapon is also fairly good for conserving ammo. The Sawed-Off Shotgun is available in Rundown 8.0, and ALT://Rundown 5.0.

16 Techman Klust 6 Burst Cannon

Fires Three Powerful Rounds With Every Pull Of The Trigger

Using the overpowered Burst Cannon in GTFO
  • Weapon Type: Special
  • Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 20/70
  • Damage: 100.5
  • Rate of Fire: Medium
  • Reload Time: 3 Seconds
  • Range: Medium

The Burst Cannon was originally made available in Rundown 003 and is currently available in Rundown 8.0 and ALT://Rundown 3.0. There are few weapons that can match the Burst Cannon when it comes to covering an entrance into the currently occupied room.

This weapon's slow rate of fire and reload time are not as big of a liability as they might seem. This is due to the Burst Cannon's high damage and burst capability. Pair this weapon with a medium-range weapon like the SMG or Pistol. Switch out for the main weapon instead of reloading, or if there are only a few scattered enemies about.

15 Accrat ND6 Heavy SMG

One Of The Best All-Around Weapons In The Game

Using the Heavy SMG on a group of Striker in GTFO
  • Weapon Type: Main
  • Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 25/331
  • Damage: 2.01
  • Rate of Fire: Medium
  • Reload Time: 1.55 Seconds
  • Range: Medium

It's not too difficult to see why this weapon is restricted in GTFO. It was just a bit overpowered. The Heavy SMG did more damage than the SMG but had more stability while firing than the Assault Rifle. It carries less ammo in the magazine than the SMG, but its ammo storage capacity is not much less than either the SMG or Assault Rifle.

At medium range, there weren't many weapons better than the Heavy SMG. Its high rate of fire, damage, and stability allowed for rapid successive headshots. Many players are eagerly awaiting an opportunity to use this weapon again. This is currently available in ALT://Rundown 5.0

14 Bataldo Model 8 HEL Revolver

Stagger Enemies With This Powerful Revolver

Using the HEL Revolver in GTFO
  • Weapon Type: Main
  • Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 8/100
  • Damage: 8.01
  • Rate of Fire: Slow
  • Reload Time: 2.3 Seconds
  • Range: Medium

The ability to use the HEL Revolver is a great reason to play Rundown 004, which is widely considered one of the hardest in GTFO. It can be used in Rundown4.0//Extended. The HEL Revolver gives the player a weapon with the damage of the DMR Rifle, the stability of the Pistol, a high stagger rate, and a reasonably fast reload time.

The HEL Revolver also has piercing rounds, so this weapon is king in confined hallways. Headshots are easy to pull off with this weapon, and even if the player hits the torso instead, this weapon's staggering capability makes the follow-up shot easy.

13 Mastaba R66 Revolver

High Damage, But Low Ammo Capacity

Using the Mastaba R66 Revolver in GTFO
  • Weapon Type: Special
  • Magazine Size/Max Ammo: 6/52
  • Damage: 12.21
  • Rate of Fire: High
  • Reload Time: 2 Seconds
  • Range: Medium

The Mastaba Revolver is a decent weapon. For starters, it deals quite a bit of damage. As long as a player has good aim, this is a very efficient weapon that can one-hit kill Scouts, Strikers, and Shooters. The revolver has a high rate of fire; however, this doesn't mean much, considering it only holds six rounds.

There are several factors, apart from the small ammo capacity, that keep this weapon from ranking higher. It has a slow reload time compared to other weapons. This weapon also has a significant amount of recoil, making follow-up shots less accurate.
