Guilty Gear Strive was released more than four years ago, but it's still getting some major new content updates to this day. The developer of Guilty Gear Strive, Arc System Works, has already released a fourth season pass for the game. This pass not only includes some stages and a handful of character colors, but it also features several all-new DLC characters, as well. These include the half-gear/human hybrid Queen Dizzy, the unusual assassin Venom, and the Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Riders character Unika. Although the support for this fourth season pass is about to come to an end, there is one more upcoming character it has that's worth highlighting.

During Evo 2025, Arc System Works unveiled its plans for the future of Guilty Gear Strive. The company revealed that the game will receive a new 2.0 update next year that will include some major new content. In addition to this, it confirmed that the next major character in the game's fourth season pass will be added this August. This character, as Arc System Works had previously announced, is Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Lucy's debut in Guilty Gear Strive is not only the first time that a crossover character has ever been added to an entry in the Guilty Gear franchise, but it's also the first instance of Lucy herself ever appearing in a video game.

Guilty Gear Strive Producer Reveals DLC Guest Character That Almost Happened

Guilty Gear Strive's producer, Ken Miyauchi, opens up about the game's first guest character Lucy, and reveals she wasn't actually the first choice.

Lucy is Appearing in Guilty Gear Strive Before Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk Guilty Gear Lucy Crossover

Lucy is One of Cyberpunk: Edgerunner's Most Well-Known Characters

Lucyna Kushinada, as many fans probably know, is the deuteragonist of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the 2022 Netflix anime adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077. She is a talented and mysterious netrunner who is the primary love interest for the protagonist of the series, the teenager-turned-mercenary David Martinez. Thanks to her distinctive design and her heartwarming, but tragic, relationship with David, Lucy has managed to become one of the most popular characters in the Cyberpunk canon. However, she never actually makes an appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 itself.

Cyberpunk Guilty Gear Lucy Hacking

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners aired roughly two years after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, and its story takes place shortly before the events of the game that it was based on. Therefore, the narratives of the game and the show have no direct relation to each other. Due to these reasons, most of the characters the anime series introduced don't have a significant presence at all in Cyberpunk 2077. The closest that players can find to Edgerunners-related content in Cyberpunk 2077 is a couple of Easter eggs and cosmetics.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was recently confirmed to be getting a Season 2 that will act as a standalone story from the previous season.

Cyberpunk Guilty Gear Lucy Face Off

The only evidence that Lucy even exists in the world of Cyberpunk 2077 can be found at a certain place in Night City called the North Oak Columbarium. There, players can find the niches of some of the deceased characters from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. On these niches, there are some messages which are implied to have been written by Lucy herself, sometime after the events of the anime. Aside from this, though, players can neither encounter Lucy nor obtain any of her iconic apparel from the series.

Aside from Some Easter Eggs, Lucy is Almost Never Referenced in Cyberpunk 2077

It Looks Like Arc System Works is Doing Lucy Justice in Guilty Gear Strive

While it's unfortunate that Lucy is practically non-existent in Cyberpunk 2077, it's great that she is at least going to appear as a playable character in Guilty Gear Strive. Judging by the gameplay footage that Arc System Works has shown so far, it seems like Guilty Gear Strive's version of Lucy will retain many of the abilities and weapons that she had in Edgerunners. On top of that, she is apparently going to be integrated into the overarching plot of the Guilty Gear universe in some way. Arc System Works is seemingly putting a lot of effort into ensuring that Lucy will be a fun character to play as in Guilty Gear Strive, so hopefully her appearance in the game will satisfy Cyberpunk: Edgerunners fans who are thirsting for more new content.
