Lyn is (at the time of writing this) one of the newest characters added to Gunfire Reborn. This first-person roguelike dungeon crawler has 12 playable characters with the Realm of Frost and Inkwash DLC, and each character has an entirely different set of abilities and recommended playstyle. Lyn, for example, is a high single-target damage dealer with the ability to create Weakspots on her enemies as well as execute said enemies if she gets them to certain health thresholds.
29 Great Story-Driven FPS Games
These FPS games aren't just about moving from gunfight to gunfight. They also tell a great story as players progress.
And while that may not sound all 'that' overpowered Lyn is undoubtedly one of the strongest playable characters in the game at the moment. So, with that in mind, let's take an in-depth look at this Gunfire Reborn character overall and talk about what recommendations we'd have when it comes to building her over the course of a run.
For our recommendations, we specifically selected items, upgrades, and scrolls that synergize with Lyn's design. Scrolls and weapons that are good on just about every character we didn't include, since mentioning them wouldn't really be a specific recommendation for Lyn as an individual character.
Character Overview
A High-Damage Executor With a Lot of Potential
|
Ability Name |
Ability Type |
Cooldown/Default Capacity |
Description |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Frost Burial |
Primary |
10 Seconds |
Deal 700 normal damage to the target you're looking at when activating Frost Burial. The higher the target's Lethal Line, the higher the damage dealt when Frost Burial is activated. If the target's HP is below the Lethal Line, the target will be executed immediately. If the target is in a Lethal or Unbalanced state, an additional area of effect burst damage is also dealt. |
|
Frozen Grenades |
Secondary |
3x Capacity |
Throws a grenade that explodes on contact with frost in a 5-meter radius, dealing 500 normal damage and causing a 2-second Slow effect to any enemies in the area of effect. |
Those of you who have put some time into Lei Luo will pick up Lyn relatively quickly, as both characters are pretty heavily designed around Rifles, Snipers, and Critical Hits overall. However, whereas Lei Luo is centered around dealing additional lightning damage on his crits or getting critical hits even when he misses an opponent's Weakspot, Lyn is built around her Lethal Line mechanic and the Weakspots she creates.
Essentially, as Lyn, you'll be constantly focusing on your opponent's lethal line, their current health, and looking out for the yellow glowing spots that are their Weakspots. To summarize Lyn's core design as simply as possible, Lyn is a character built around high single-target damaging, executing her opponents at certain health thresholds, and debilitating her enemies using the slowing effects of her grenades.
Weapon Recommendations
No Surprise it's Mostly Rifles & Snipers
We'll be getting into the specifics for each weapon below, but overall Lyn synergizes best with weapons that have high critical hit damage and allow her to accurately target enemy Weakspots that she creates.
Obviously, like most characters in Gunfire Reborn, Lyn can work (and even excel) with just about any weapon in the game, but in general, these are the weapons you'll want to keep an eye out for in your runs (especially if their inscriptions are powerful as well):
|
Weapon Name |
Weapon Type |
Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
|
Calvary |
Rifle |
Very basic assault rifle, third shot always auto-crits. Great for targeting Weakspots. |
|
Crimson Firescale |
Rifle |
The Weapon Skill of the Crimson Firescale, AKA the firescale bombs, charge on crit hits, meaning these fireballs will be available for use often on Lyn. |
|
Dragonchaser |
Rifle |
The Weapon Skill allows you to place a mark on anything and have the bullet home in on it, which is great for targeting Weakspots. |
|
Revealer |
Rifle |
Incredibly synergistic with Lyn, as it allows her to trigger critical hits almost 100 percent of the time without even having to aim very accurately at all. |
|
Demonlore |
SMG |
Weapon damage increases on every critical hit, making it a fantastic pick for Lyn. |
|
Wolf Gaze |
SMG |
The Weapon Skill that inflicts Voracity and Howl works well with Lyn's default mechanics. |
|
Icy Spear |
Pistol |
Thematically appropriate choice for Lyn but the AoE damage makes hitting Weakspots relatively easy, especially when retrieving the ice thorns using the Weapon Skill. |
|
Prism |
Pistol |
The bouncing aspect of this weapon makes it possible to hit Weakspots very often without even aiming for them. |
|
Argus |
Shotgun |
The horizontal spread of this weapon makes it easier to hit Weakspots. |
|
Pupil |
Shotgun |
Charging increases both accuracy and damage with this weapon, another great option for targeting Weakspots. |
|
Porcupine |
Shotgun |
Because the projectiles scatter widely, even with the default fire of this weapon, you'll end up hitting the enemy Weakspots often without even meaning to. |
|
Brick |
Sniper |
High CritX (AKA Crit Damage) will always synergize well with Lyn. |
|
Double Caliber |
Sniper |
Critical hits return 2 ammo to the magazine, meaning you'll rarely ever have to reload this gun with Lyn at all. |
|
Bloody Drill |
Sniper |
Sniper with a scope, so it works well with Lyn, but the bleeding effect also is an added bonus. |
|
Sting |
Sniper |
The explosion on this weapon gives Lyn more AoE options, especially if she gets the Snow Vortex Ascension for her Snow Grenades. |
|
Strike Wing |
Sniper |
Gives Lyn some multi-target damage thanks to the additional arrows this weapon creates. |
|
Lightning Ksana |
Sniper |
The scoped shots using Resource Charges to give higher CritX are a perfect fit for Lyn's playstyle. |
|
Rainbow |
Spray Weapon |
Weapon Skill launches a mark that the gun locks onto, similar to the Dragonchaser. |
|
Fire Dragon |
Spray Weapon |
Flamethrower makes it easy to hit enemy Weakspots many times in a short span of time. |
In our opinion, the Double Caliber, Rainbow, Dragonchaser, and Revealer weapons are the absolute best ones for Lyn, but thankfully she has plenty of other options if none of those seem to be popping up in a run.
Ascension Recommendations
Lethal Line Ascensions, Frozen Grenade Crowd Control, & More
Just about every single Ascension option available to Lyn through Golden Goblets in Gunfire Reborn are obscenely powerful. In fact, you can really choose whichever ones you like and you'll often find success regardless of how well your choices synergize with each other. However, these Ascensions, in our opinion, make the most difference for Lyn overall:
|
Ascension Name |
Ascension 'Branch' |
Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
|
Blizzard Gale |
Shattered Jade |
More Weakspot damage and overall damage as a whole. |
|
Moon Chaser |
Shattered Jade |
The auto-target effect for Weakspots when Moon Chaser is activated is absolutely incredible. |
|
Ice Crush |
Shattered Jade |
Makes it easy for Lyn to take out groups of enemies with a single shot and also gives her more ways to passively damage Weakspots. |
|
Snow Vortex |
Deeper Freeze |
Great CC tool and makes any AoE damage that Lyn can output a lot better. |
|
Freezing Time |
Deeper Freeze |
Slower enemies means more control over the flow of combat, and this also increases the damage these slowed enemies take from Lyn. |
|
Glacial Sky |
Deeper Freeze |
Just a massive damage buff to Frozen Grenades. |
|
Winter is Coming |
Cold Silence |
Makes it so that you're Unbalancing enemies almost constantly, and the effect triggers often due to Weakspot hits reducing the cooldown of said effect. |
|
Lethal Chill |
Cold Silence |
Increases the threshold of Lethal Line, meaning you can execute enemies with Frost Burial even earlier. With the right combination, this can allow you to almost entirely execute bosses at 70+ percent health. |
|
Bitter Windrush |
Cold Silence |
More AoE damage and weak spot damage. |
In particular Lethal Chill, Snow Vortex, and Bitter Windrush make massive impacts on a run the instant you grab even the first upgrade level of them. It's no over-exaggeration that with something like Lethal Chill, most bosses in Gunfire Reborn last less than 10 seconds against you.
Occult Scrolls Recommendations
Just Looking for Anything With the Word 'Crit' in the Description
When it comes to Occult Scrolls, there are only a select few scrolls that negatively impact you to pick up, at least depending on the character you're playing. Most Occult Scrolls in this game are a net gain or simply have a very minor effect.
Still, the Scrolls we've mentioned below (not ranked in any order) are ones you'll want to keep an eye out for, as they especially synergize with Lyn's core gameplay loop and can instantly propel her damage to some pretty absurd heights:
|
Occult Scroll Name |
Rarity |
Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
|
Pre-Emptive Strike |
Normal |
Synergizes very well with Snipers (especially the Double Caliber) |
|
Magic Magazine |
Normal |
More weapon damage and less ammo usage. |
|
Rock-Hard Determination |
Normal |
With Snipers and Rifles, you'll be standing still more often. |
|
Skateboarder |
Normal |
Most Snipers and Rifles have longer reload animations, and this Scroll circumvents having to deal with that. |
|
Long Shot |
Normal |
An obvious pick for any Sniper build. |
|
Bullet Light |
Normal |
Lucky Shot Chance buffs work very well with Lyn overall due to her reliable ability to get Critical Hits. |
|
Piercing Bullet |
Normal |
Works very well with Lyn's gunfire into Frost Burial gameplay loop. |
|
Ninja's Discipline |
Rare |
More Lucky Shot Chance, also works well since a lot of Lyn's best weapons have a lower RoF. |
|
Magic Watch |
Rare |
More Frost Burial usage is always better. |
|
Final Judgement |
Rare |
Gives Lyn another way to execute enemies. |
|
Coin Shot |
Rare |
More Lucky Shot Chance. |
|
Dormant Bullet |
Rare |
More Weapon Damage is always a plus. |
|
Explosive Bullets |
Rare |
Additional explosion damage is based off of weapon damage, meaning this is a big damage buff for Snipers and Rifles. |
|
Surprise Bonus |
Rare |
Allows for instant executes on certain enemies (and even bosses) if it triggers at the right time. |
|
Ancient Timer |
Rare |
More Frost Burial usage. |
|
Overflowing Waters |
Rare |
More Weapon Damage and the Frozen Grenade debuff isn't all that bad. |
|
Deflection Shield |
Legendary |
Great survivability grab for any character that plays from a far away range. |
|
Hawkeye Sight |
Legendary |
Synergizes incredibly well with any character using a Sniper. |
|
Dual-Edge |
Legendary |
A huge damage buff for Lyn in exchange for less survivability. |
|
Penetration Bullet |
Legendary |
By far one of the best Scrolls to get on Lyn due to its Critical Hit synergy. |
|
Reasonable Luck |
Legendary |
Huge Lucky Shot Chance buff. |
|
Energy Storage |
Legendary |
More Frost Burial Usage. |
|
Merciless Strike |
Legendary |
More Lucky Shot Chance on Critical Hits, which Lyn will be getting constantly. |
|
Advanced Depot |
Legendary |
With this, you won't need to reload at all with Lyn and it also synergizes incredibly well with Pre-Emptive Strike Occult Scroll. |
General Playstyle Tips
How to Make the Most of This Snowy Deer
Lastly, let's go over some core gameplay tips for those of you just picking up Lyn for the first time. This character is incredibly strong, and will likely honestly get adjusted by the dev team somewhere down the line, but that's only if you understand her mechanics enough and aren't making any big mistakes. With that in mind, here are some of our general tips for Lyn after spending some time with her:
- Lyn's Frozen Grenades might seem weak at first, given that their damage is a lot lower than many other characters' Secondary Skills. However, they're meant for spawning Weakspots and for CC, so you'll want to utilize them as such.
- The additional AoE effect on her Frost Burial against Unbalanced enemies is incredibly helpful, but don't put too much of your focus on trying to trigger it with Lyn. Focusing too much on this will take your focus away from the actual gameplay, and will often end up with you down on the ground all for the sake of a bit of extra AoE damage. Instead, leave it to Ascensions such as Ice Crush for reliable AoE damage that you can voluntarily choose to trigger.
- Lyn is not the 'up close and personal' type of fighter that a lot of the Gunfire Reborn cast tend to be such as Qian Sui, Tao, or Qing Yan. You'll want to stay at a safe distance with this character most of the time, especially on higher difficulties.
- Always try and aim for Weakspots when you can, and try to keep a passive eye on Elite or Boss enemy Lethal Lines so you can execute them with Frost Burial as soon as it becomes possible to do so.
