For Early Access, the Argent Skull is the weirdest weapon in Hades 2 so far. Unlike the other four weapons that look like instruments one would find in a roguelike, the Argent Skull looks just like a corpse’s head sans skin.

Hades 2: Every Weapon In Early Access, Ranked

With Hades 2 now in early access, players have been experimenting with the game's starting weapons, and have found that some are better than others.

It’s deceptive in its design but these skulls pack one heck of a wallop. Once thrown, the skull will explode. It’s a great weapon for dealing with large crowds of enemies but there are some downsides too. These downsides can be alleviated with the help of Boons, so let’s go over some of the best to pair with the Argent Skull in Hades 2.

8 Bolstered Array

Daedalus Hammer

Bolstered Array in Hades 2
  • Add More Ammo

The Bolstered Array is a Boon in the Daedalus Hammer family of enhancements. When players get the Argent Skull, they will have three rounds of ammunition. It’s a good weapon overall making it sort of like a rocket launcher in a game like Call of Duty.

However, it can be a chore to have to gather skulls every time to replenish ammunition. Bolstered Array will add two skulls to the weapon, allowing players to not have to worry about gathering ammunition quite as much. It’s not a huge clip extension but every bit helps and rarer mods to Bolstered Array will increase ammunition even more.

7 Fetching Array

Daedalus Hammer

  • Return Ammo Automatically

If players are truly lucky, they can combo Bolstered Array with Fetching Array, which is also a Daedalus Hammer Boon in Hades 2. This Boon will automatically return skulls to players but there is a condition. The weapon will have one less skull attached to it. So, at the base, the Argent Skull will be left with two skulls.

With Bolstered Array, players will have four skulls to work with on top of getting the return option on ammunition. On its own, Fetching Array may not be worth it for some players. However, even without Bolstered Array, other players may enjoy the boomerang-like effect of ammunition.

6 Hard Target

Hermes

Hard Target in Hades 2
  • Ranged Enemy Attacks Are Slower

Hard Target is the first Boon players should pick up from Hermes, the god of swiftness in Hades 2. It will slow down projectiles from enemies by a certain percentage. On the lowest tier of this Boon, projectiles will slow down by 30% which should make aiming while dodging with the Argent Skull easier.

It’s a great Boon to have as a lot of enemies do have destructive projectiles. The best example early on in Hades 2 is the first boss, Hecate, who shoots almost nothing but various beams and waves of energy.

5 Nitro Boost

Hermes

  • Sprint Faster And Gain A Barrier

Nitro Boost is another Boon from Hermes that has the complete opposite effect of Hard Target. There are two ways to get away from enemy attacks in the game. There is the dodge button which allows players to dive through attacks to keep Melinoe safe.

Players can also just sprint around rooms to avoid attacks. The sprint button can have Boons tied to it, like Nitro Boost, which will allow players to run faster. Also, a barrier will surround Melinoe during sprints to block some attacks.

4 Volcanic Strike

Hephaestus

  • Chance To Create Extra Blast

One of the great things about the Argent Skull’s normal attacks is the explosions. Any way to increase this destructive power should be welcomed and Volcanic Strike is one of those powers. It’s a Boon from Hephaestus who is the god of the forge in Hades 2.

With it, players will get a small chance of causing an extra explosion upon impact, but just from normal attacks. It’s a small bonus for a Boon at first, but rarer versions can make this upgrade quite handy if aimed at the right group of minions.

3 Fixed Gain

Hephaestus

  • Reduce Damage And Restore Magick In The Process

Argent Skull users don’t have to rely on Magick energy that much. The charged normal attack will turn the weapon into a mortar, giving players more range. The charged Special is a good enough dash attack to get out of sticky situations.

8 Things You Didn't Know You Could Do In Hades 2

Hades 2's Early Access brings a ton of new things to the table, and it's easy to miss out on a couple of them. Here's what players may have not known.

1

It’s just best to use the weapon as intended, like a grenade launcher. The point is, even though the Magick energy needs aren’t high for Argent Skull mains, players should still have a way to regain some power. Fixed Gain, also from Hephaestus, will reduce damage by a percentage and then restore Magick energy based on that reduction which is like getting two Boon effects for the price of one.

2 Engagement Ring

Hera

Engagement Ring in Hades 2
  • Create A Larger Cast

The other reason to get a Boon that will help with Magick restoration in Hades 2 is for Casts. They can stop enemies in their tracks if they step inside a Cast circle. Casts do not change between weapons but they can change based on deity Boons.

For example, a great one to pair with the Argent Skull weapon is called Engagement Ring. It can be acquired from Hera in Hades 2, queen of all deities. This will make the Cast circle larger thus ensuring more enemies will be caught in the trap for players to explode with this weapon.

1 Easy Shot

Artemis

Easy Shot in Hades 2
  • Artemis Fires Arrows At Enemies Caught In Casts

Finally, Easy Shot is a Boon from Artemis who is the goddess of the hunt in Hades 2. Enemies that are caught in a Cast circle will also be fired upon by Artemis’ arrows which will appear offscreen. It’s just another way to add damage to the pile.

Combined with Hera’s Engagement Ring, this will ensure more enemies can get hit with Artemis’ trained bow. The only downside to this Boon is that getting Artemis in a run has a low chance of happening compared to other deities in the game. That’s just the nature with roguelikes as luck is certainly a major factor.
