The imminent release of the Nintendo Switch 2 includes a library of third-party games. Hades 2 is currently in Early Access on PC and Mac, and Supergiant Games has stated that it has no intention of releasing it on other platforms while it's still in Early Access. However, once Hades 2 officially launches, it will be released on both the Switch and the Switch 2. Supergiant Games hasn't announced when Hades 2 will be released, with speculation that it will be towards the end of 2025. Hades 2' s timeline to its full release is up in the air, and there is still one more major update before v1.0 and a Switch 2 launch.
The Hades games have had a history with Switch releases, and the first Hades was released on the original Switch as a timed console exclusive. Supergiant will have the chance to go back to Hades and possibly release it on the Switch 2 in the years to come. This gives Supergiant the opportunity to remaster Hades, and add some extra storytelling and features alongside optimizing it.
Hades 2's Wealth of Romance Could Leave a Mark on Future Supergiant Games
As the wait for the complete launch of Hades 2 continues, the franchise's romance could become a staple mechanic for Supergiant.
How Revisiting Hades Could Make It Better
Hades hasn't been announced to be released on the Switch 2, but it's very possible that it will eventually make its way to the Switch 2. To do this, Hades would have to be optimized for the Switch 2, and returning to it presents the opportunity to give it some updates beyond optimization.
The original release of Hades will be playable on the Switch 2 via the console's backward compatibility.
Implementing New Features in Hades For the Switch 2
A Hades Switch 2 edition could include all the content from the original, and possibly add some extra lines of dialogue or references to Hades 2. Without spoiling the events of Hades 2, a Switch 2-optimized Hades could add some features from the sequel, such as one of the weapons and aspects Melinoe uses, Charon's delivery service, its garden, and its gifting mechanic.
The Switch 2 is set to use faster microSD cards than the Switch, which would give Hades faster loading times between rooms and after death. It would also likely be able to reach a higher frame rate, which is essential for Hades, where gameplay success often relies on reaction times. On a platform with more processing power, Hades could have better VFX and art closer in style to Hades, with improved sprite models and animation, and more detailed backgrounds.
Updating in a Post-Hades 2 World
A re-release of Hades for the Switch 2 would have the benefit of hindsight, and it would be possible to include foreshadowing for story points that appear in Hades 2. Supergiant would have to do this without including spoilers, and so any foreshadowing would have to be very subtle.
Foreshadowing Hades 2's Events
Including foreshadowing in Hades would get new players excited about the next game, while Hades 2 players will be able to pinpoint any foreshadowing and Easter eggs that will later become relevant. A way to do this without spoiling Hades 2 is through the Fated List of Minor Prophecies. The Fated List has the advantage of being vague, while also alluding to events that will happen at some point in the future. Another connection is the role the Fates play in Hades 2.
Introducing Chaos Trials
Hades could also include Chaos Trials, which could include references to Hades 2, such as fighting enemies from Hades 2, transporting Zagreus to an Underworld environment in Hades 2, or referencing Melinoe's battles when she's transported to Asphodel during the time period Zagreus was attempting to escape.
