Hades 2 is finally leaving early access on September 25 for PC, Switch 1, and Switch 2. Though players will have to wait until November 20 to get the physical edition of Hades 2, and even longer for ports on other consoles, the official launch of the action-packed indie title is just around the corner.
After first being announced during The Game Awards 2022, Hades 2 entered early access in May 2024 on PC. Over the next year and a half, Supergiant Games rolled out update after update, with the final major patch, The Unseen Update, arriving June 17. That said, another slightly smaller Hades 2 patch rolled out in July as well, containing fan-driven bug fixes and balance adjustments.
Hades 2 Releases on Switch 1/2 and PC on September 25
Now, Hades 2 is finally ready to leave its early access and PC exclusivity behind. During the Nintendo Direct on September 12, Hades 2 officially locked down September 25 as its launch day on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. PC players will likewise see the early access game updated to version 1.0 on the same date, giving fans access to the full release of Hades 2, without any additional purchases if they already owned the pre-release version.
Unfortunately, PlayStation and Xbox gamers may be in for a much longer wait in order to play Hades 2 – though the roguelike will release on Xbox and PlayStation consoles eventually, no date has been announced at press time. The original Hades was released exclusively on PC and Nintendo Switch as well, with a whopping 11 months until it finally arrived on other consoles. If Hades 2 follows precedent, players may not see the indie game hit Xbox or PlayStation until well into 2026.
Though September 25 marks the digital release of Hades 2 on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the shop for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, players will have to wait a little longer to pick up a physical copy. The indie game hits store shelves on November 20, so fans hoping to collect a physical version will need to wait a couple of months to do so.
Hades 2 marks the fifth game released by Supergiant Games, as well as its first sequel it has ever worked on. It remains to be seen what project the popular indie studio will tackle next, be it another Hades sequel or spinoff, a follow-up to Bastion, Transistor, or Pyre, or something completely new. Regardless, players shouldn’t be surprised if it is a few years before they hear what Supergiant is cooking up next, as there will undoubtedly be some more post-launch bug fixes and balance updates for Hades 2 as well.
