Hades 2 is one of the most highly anticipated sequels at the moment. Currently in early access, many players have been eager to see the fully finished version of Hades 2 and what it has to offer. After the success of its predecessor, Hades, this follow-up aims to expand some of the best features of the Greek god-focused roguelike.
One of the most well-received parts of Hades was its romance options. Throughout the game, players had three options to choose from: Dusa, Thanatos, and Megaera. Despite there being only three choices, Hades still boasted a strong romance system that made a small pool still feel rewarding. However, Hades 2 has doubled its romance options, signaling that developer Supergiant Games seems interested in making this mechanic a staple of the studio.

Since the game is currently only in early access, the full launch is bound to dive deeper into relationships, but the breadcrumbs of romance that are present in this preview version of Hades 2 are exciting. Right now, there are twice as many options as the first Hades, but that could potentially grow, too. There's no way to know for sure what the final product of Hades 2 will have in store. Even if there aren't more romanceable characters included at launch, six options is still a big improvement.

Supergiant Has Made it Clear That the Studio is Interested in More Romance
When beginning development on Hades 2, Supergiant could have easily stuck with keeping the game's romance options confined to a tight trio. This likely wouldn't have upset many fans, as the first game made a small number of options work incredibly well. However, Supergiant chose to expand this feature, hinting that the team enjoys this mechanic just as much as a lot of the players.
It wouldn't be surprising if the future of Supergiant involved a lot of romance options in future games. Right now, the developer's next project is likely years away, but once this sequel launches and the studio moves on to the next thing, there are bound to be aspects of Hades and Hades 2 that bleed over into future work.
One interesting change to Hades 2's romance mechanics is the choice for players to have a friendly or rival romance with characters. Adding a touch of competition to the mix could make for some compelling interactions.
2025 Could Be a Big Year for Hades 2

Now that Nintendo has locked down Hades 2 as an exclusive for a limited time, it looks like Supergiant might still be on track to launch sometime later in the year. It could be alongside the launch of the Switch 2 or several months down the road. Until Supergiant makes an official statement, there is only room for speculation. Despite the silence from the developer, seeing how much Hades 2 has already evolved compared to its predecessor is an exciting promise of what awaits players on launch day.
As the wait to learn more about Melinoe and her story continues, Hades 2 is primed to be an intriguing release. With confirmation that more romance options are on the table, it will be exciting to see what other features have been upgraded since the first Hades.
