However, one of the spookiest holidays of the year is right around the corner, and with it comes a wave of horror-themed updates hitting players’ favorite games.
Halloween 2025 is rapidly approaching, bringing the perfect excuse to dive into some of the best horror games, sit back, and enjoy a few good scares. But that’s not all, as several major titles are rolling out their own Halloween-themed events and updates, adding terrifying vibes and fresh content. From Fortnitemares in Fortnite to The Haunting in Call of Duty, here are some of the best gaming events to check out this Halloween season.

Arguably one of the biggest Halloween gaming events every year is Fortnitemares, an annual celebration that’s been a staple since Fortnite first launched back in 2017. Fortnitemares 2025 officially kicks off on October 9 at 9 AM PT, arriving just a week after the Kpop Demon Hunters x Fortnite collaboration event, which introduced the Demon Rush LTM, new locations like Dreamy Domain, Ranger’s Rest, and Bugswatter Beach, as well as powerful items such as Rumi’s Empowered Sword, Zoey’s Bubble Shield, and Tiger’s Teleporting Mask.
This year’s Fortnitemares is shaping up to be a massive update. Fan-favorite items like the Pumpkin Launcher and Chainsaw are making their return, alongside tons of new content. Doja Cat joins the fray with her own themed point of interest, while major crossover collabs include Scooby-Doo, Ghost Face, Jason Voorhees, Huggy Wuggy from Poppy Playtime, and more. With even more content rolling out throughout the event, players can dive in and start exploring everything Fortnitemares 2025 has to offer, starting October 9 to November 1.

While Fortnitemares is sure to get Battle Royale fans in the Halloween spirit, Call of Duty is joining the fun with the return of The Haunting, the seasonal event kicking off Season 6 of Black Ops 6 and Warzone. This year’s Haunting leans heavily into horror collaborations, featuring The Predator in the Season 6 Battle Pass, Chucky in his own Event Pass, and Jason Voorhees as a Store Bundle later in the season.
Beyond the collabs, The Haunting brings some major gameplay updates. Verdansk and Rebirth Island both receive nighttime variants in Warzone, while Black Ops 6 gets three new 6v6 maps and a spooky Nuketown variant called Boo-Town. Zombie Royale returns mid-season on Verdansk, and Multiplayer fans can jump into Slasher Deathmatch, where players can play as or face off against iconic killers like Chucky and Jason. Fans of Grand Theft Auto still have quite a bit of time to wait for Grand Theft Auto 6. However, in the meantime, those jumping into GTA Online in October can look forward to a bunch of cool Halloween updates scheduled throughout the month. Those roaming the world of Los Santos can expect a variety of unique free roam events, from encounters with UFOs, the return of the Phantom Car, and even the ability to turn into animals and take on possessed creatures all around the city.
That’s not all, as several game modes are also returning throughout October. Beast vs. Slasher ran from October 3 to October 8, with Judgement Day kicking off from October 9 to 15. Slasher: Ramius Submarine debuts from October 16 to 22, Condemned runs from October 23 to 29, and Slasher returns to close out the month from October 30 to November 5. All in all, those who may have been on the fence about diving back into GTA Online absolutely should for Halloween.

Phasmophobia is already one of the top horror games to jump into with friends this Halloween. With its focus on teamwork and ghost investigations, players can’t go wrong loading it up for some co-op scares. However, Phasmophobia is also receiving a terrifying Halloween update that cranks up the fear factor even more.
Starting October 9, Phasmophobia launches its Crimson Eye Event, where players can witness the Blood Moon. This event summons ghosts that drain sanity faster and move much quicker than usual. Additional locations have also entered the rotation, changing daily throughout the month, including 6 Tanglewood Drive, Bleasdale Farmhouse, and 13 Willow Street. On top of that, players can earn exclusive event rewards, available until the event concludes on October 31.

Blizzard has been pretty quiet when it comes to Season 19 announcements, with the season expected to launch on Tuesday, October 14. While fans are eager to know whether Season 19 will introduce a new Hero or new Mythic skins, those jumping into Overwatch 2 just in time for Halloween can look forward to the return of Halloween Terror 2025.
Overwatch 2’s annual Halloween Terror event is always a highlight, and while official details haven’t been revealed yet, players can likely expect a variety of new Halloween-themed skins for their favorite heroes, as well as spooky map makeovers. A new PvE experience or limited-time mode could also be in the works, though Blizzard has yet to confirm anything. Halloween Terror 2025 is expected to begin alongside the launch of Season 19.

Marvel Rivals Season 4.5 kicked off on October 10, and while the launch isn’t exactly Halloween-themed, Daredevil has joined the hero roster right away. As the season moves closer to Halloween, however, players can expect some spooky-themed cosmetics and more.
On October 24, the Voyage to Astonish event begins, introducing the Midnight Mayhem costume line featuring Halloween skins centered around pumpkins for Jeff the Landshark, Peni Parker, and more. A mystery game mode also starts that day, though the details are still a mystery. Then, on October 31, players can look forward to the Man-Spider costume for Spider-Man and the Queen of the Dead costume for Scarlet Witch, featuring Wanda's look from What If and Marvel Zombies.
