Recent rumors suggest that Halo: Combat Evolved could be getting a remake, and not only that, but said remake could be making its way to the PlayStation 5. Halo: Combat Evolved was a launch title for the original Xbox and firmly established Halo as the company's flagship franchise. Halo is to Xbox as Super Mario is to Nintendo, so no one ever expected that the franchise could make its way to competing platforms.

And for the past 20+ years, that was true. But things have changed and Xbox's priorities have shifted dramatically. It's no longer interested in the console wars and trying to sell hardware through exclusives. Instead, Xbox has been actively publishing its games on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, with longtime exclusives like Forza Horizon and Gears of War getting PS5 ports this year. Forza and Gears are two massive Xbox franchises for sure, but neither one is the equivalent of Halo coming to PS5. If the Halo PS5 rumors are true, it will truly be the end of an era.

Halo 1 Remake Could Be Coming to PS5

The Halo World Championships take place later this month, and it's been teased that new Halo projects could be announced during the event, specifically on October 24. It's heavily rumored that one such announcement will be for the Halo: Combat Evolved remake that is supposedly releasing next year to celebrate 25 years of the Halo franchise and Xbox. Not only that, but it's believed that the Halo: Combat Evolved remake will also be releasing day-and-date on PS5. If that's true and the announcement comes on October 24, it will truly be like hell is freezing over for the PlayStation and Xbox brands.

The new friendly relationship between PlayStation and Xbox has been largely one-sided so far. Xbox has been bringing some of its heavy hitters to PlayStation, but so far all Xbox gamers have gotten in return is Helldivers 2. Sony has not announced plans to bring any of its other exclusive games to Xbox, though with rumors that the next-generation Xbox console will run Steam, it seems that fans of Microsoft's gaming platform will get access to more PS exclusives eventually regardless.

The console wars are starting to wind down and barriers that we never thought would be broken are being torn down.
