A talented Halo 3 player has taken an awesome trip down memory lane, by turning a screenshot from the game into an amazing painting. Even though Halo 3 turns 17 years old later this year, it continues to inspire players everywhere.

In any list of the best Halo games, Bungie's third effort in the original trilogy will always be among the top. It's not all down to nostalgia, either - Halo 3 is a legitimately fantastic game, and still holds up well to this day. Nothing underlines this more than Halo 3's presence in The Master Chief Collection. It still has extremely active multiplayer playlists and, until recently, was still being updated with new content by 343 Industries. It's clear that Halo 3 retains a special place in the gaming space, and as a result, it will continue to receive fan tributes for many years to come.

Redditor jimmycrumb shared the awesome Halo 3 painting, which, according to the user, was based on a screenshot from the game. Looking at the screenshot, it seems to take place during Sierra 117, the opening level of Halo 3's story. Other gamers in the thread managed to notice exactly where it's located, too - it's where players can find the first skull in the Campaign mode. The fact that gamers could notice this is a testament to the awesome level of detail in the painting. Particular praise was reserved in the thread for how it captures the skyboxes, which are always an area of praise for Halo games. One user even claimed that "Halo skyboxes go wild and you have done them justice."

Gamer Creates Painting of a Halo 3 Screenshot

As a result of being one of the most popular Halo games, Halo 3 is often the focus of many fan creations. In fact, some gamers are even recreating Halo 3 maps in Infinite's Forge mode, bringing old favorites to the newest title in the series. It's a compliment to how well-regarded Halo 3 is, that many players' first instinct when given these powerful tools is to take gamers back to 2007.

In the eyes of many gamers, 343 Industries has spent well over a decade now trying to recapture what made Halo 3 great with its own efforts. Halo Infinite is the closest the studio has come to recapturing the magic, and it continues to release new updates for the game for players to enjoy. The recent Halo Infinite Banished Honor update proved a hit among players, and hopefully, 343 Industries continues on this positive trajectory, whether it's with the current game or with a future project.
