Over the years, the Halo franchise has featured some of the most iconic enemy factions in gaming. From Elites to Hunters, the different enemy types that are part of the Covenant bring the harrowing world of Halo to life. However, there is one enemy above all that remains one of the most notorious in the whole series.
The Flood lives on as a horrifying and disgusting reminder of how terrifying undiscovered space-dwelling life can be. This enemy type is a parasitic organism that will use nearly any living thing as a host, making it incredibly strong and difficult to stop. A lot of players were in for a shock when playing Halo: Combat Evolved for the first time, as the Flood introduces some unexpected cosmic body horror that shakes up the action adventure formula. Despite being an iconic antagonist in the series, the Flood has been dormant for a while now, but if the next Halo game brings this enemy type back, the dreaded rocket-wielding Flood members hopefully won't be as prevalent.
Halo 2's Ghost of Lockout Explained
While recently playing Halo 2, a gamer stumbled upon a secret that has reignited discussion of the mysterious Ghost of Lockout myth.
The Next Halo Should Take Away the Flood's Rocket Launcher Privileges
Halo Ensured the Flood is a Force to Be Reckoned With
As if the Flood wasn't tough enough to get through, some of them are even equipped with rocket launchers. Not only that, but they are incredibly skilled at aiming to the point where it borders on being ridiculous. These rocket-launcher-wielding Flood troops have lived on to become one of the most notorious encounters in Halo. Getting rocked by these Flood types can be an amusing blend of hilarious and infuriating, and it takes a lot of perseverance to get through them on the first try. Even after 20 years, players still struggle with these encounters.
Rocket Launching Flood Troops Don't Have to Be Completely Forgotten
It's important to note, though, that these intense and challenging Flood run-ins are also responsible for some great in-game moments that continue to be fond memories for a lot of players. So, whatever the next Halo entails, if the Flood makes a comeback, rocket launcher troops will hopefully still be present, just not as overpowered. In Combat Evolved, Flood that wield rocket launchers can be hilariously torturous, and that feeling shouldn't exactly be gone for good.
This level of challenge can be exciting and far more rewarding to fight through, but there is also a limit. Striking a balance with this Flood type can still bring a harrowing experience while also remaining fun. Right now, there's no telling what Halo's next big antagonist will be, but the return of the Flood has been a long time coming.
The Flood is currently lying dormant, but that doesn't mean it can't make a terrifying comeback. After Halo Infinite, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding what a fresh Halo game could look like, and a Flood resurgence could be a thrilling development.
Last year it was revealed by Halo Studios, formerly 343 Industries, that all future Halo games would be moving to Unreal Engine 5.
2025 Could Be a Big Year for Halo
Between the recent rumors that Halo Studios may announce a new Halo game this year and the potential for Halo to come to PlayStation, 2025 could be a massive year for the franchise. Of course, rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, but the thought of such announcements is compelling. Whenever a new Halo game is finally announced, it will be just as exciting to learn what kind of antagonist is set to help tell the next chapter's story.
