Summary

  • Halo's iconic Assault Rifle makes an appearance in a new Wolverine comic, resembling the familiar weapon from the game series.
  • Marvel Comics has featured other Halo weapons in past issues, showcasing the Battle Rifle, Magnum, SMG, and more.
  • Halo's Energy Sword and Gravity Hammer are additional fan-favorite weapons in the franchise, known for their power in multiplayer battles.

An eagle-eyed Halo fan spotted what appeared to be a reference to one of the franchise's most iconic weapons in a recently released Wolverine comic. The first Halo game came out in 2001 as a launch title for Microsoft’s original Xbox.

Most people probably associate Halo with the series' quiet and stoic protagonist, Master Chief, but just as iconic as the legendary Spartan super soldier is the weapon that he has primarily used ever since the franchise started, the Assault Rifle. Many variants of the weapon have appeared in the games and other projects over the years, including the now-cancelled Paramount+ Halo TV show, but the gun has apparently also made its way to a new Wolverine comic.

In a recent Reddit post, user shadowthehh pointed out that Maverick's gun in the third issue of Wolverine: Blood Hunt, which was released on July 10, looked very similar to Halo's legendary Assault Rifle. While the weapon in the comic seemingly used a conventional magazine layout instead of the bullpup arrangement found in Halo's recognizable M5A series of rifles, it resembled the guns in terms of overall shape. It also sported many of the Assault Rifle's design quirks, such as the distinct upper housing and handguard, as well as its protruding barrel and flashlight.

Halo Assault Rifle in Marvel Comic Book

One community member noted that other weapons from the Halo series have appeared in past Marvel comics. Children of the Vault #3 showed main protagonists Bishop and Cable wielding the Battle Rifle, Magnum, SMG, Spartan Laser, and Rocket Launcher from Microsoft's flagship video game series, according to Reddit user Nocuore. Another person commented on shadowthehh's post that Marvel Comics loves to use Halo's arsenal of diverse weapons.

In addition to the Assault Rifle, Halo is home to one more iconic video game weapon: the Energy Sword. The Type-1 Energy Sword, which is associated with the Elites, is equally feared and respected in Halo multiplayer lobbies for its ability to kill players in just a single hit. Its Brute counterpart, the Gravity Hammer, is another fan-favorite Covenant weapon in the games.

The latest mainline entry in the Halo franchise is 343 Industries' Halo Infinit e from 2021. Operation: Fleetcom, the shooter's next major update, is set to be released on July 30, adding VIP and Headhunter, two game modes that appeared in past games, to Infinite’s playlists. The update will also deliver major quality-of-life changes to Halo Infinite's Forge and add more than 1,000 voice lines from the series' iconic multiplayer announcer, Jeff Steitzer, to the editor.
