Halo has always been known as one of the pioneers of the FPS genre and a foundation of the potential that video games have as a medium for fun and narrative richness, which is why now is the perfect time for 2001's Halo: Combat Evolved to receive a full and faithful remake with Halo: Campaign Evolved, coming in 2026. Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to bring all players to the first installment of the franchise with an Unreal Engine 5 remake, and that includes PlayStation for the first time ever. It's an exciting time to be a Halo fan, or a newcomer to the series, so check out the confirmed features for Halo: Campaign Evolved to get even more excited!
Every Halo Game, Ranked From Worst To Best
Though the Halo franchise doesn't churn out a title yearly, it has amassed a collection of phenomenal games, as evidenced by their ratings.
Crossplay & 4-Player Support
Halo Campaign Evolved Will Support Crossplay, Split-Screen Co-Op, and Online for Up to 4 Players!
One of the most exciting features coming to Halo: Campaign Evolved is the fact that the game will have crossplay. This further solidifies the bond between consoles, as those on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can once again play together in a multiplayer experience, but this time, with Xbox's golden mascot. This means that not only will players be able to experience Halo: Campaign Evolved together no matter if they're on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, but they will also be able to jump in together with a total of 4 players. A campaign spanning 4 Master Chiefs, or a campaign with 2, thanks to couch co-op split-screen, means that everyone can experience the game!
Three New Prequel Missions
A New Story Arc Involving Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson
Halo: Campaign Evolved doesn't just include a faithful remake of the original 2001 game's campaign, but instead adds something new and equally as exciting as the prospect of playing Halo on PlayStation itself. Players will be able to hop into a three-mission prequel, in which they will experience an arc involving Master Chief and everyone's favorite, Sergeant Johnson. Details on the three missions are scarce, as it's unknown if they're part of the day one experience, or what the missions actually entail, but it's exciting to know that Chief and Johnson will get their own dangerous romp.
Newly Recorded Dialogue and Motion Capture
A Complete Overhaul of Sound, Visuals, Animations, and Cinematics
Halo: Campaign Evolved isn't just a remake that remasters the old sound files like other remakes do, as, instead, Halo: Campaign Evolved decides to revamp the entire arsenal to please ears and eyes alike. With Halo: Campaign Evolved, players can expect all-new visuals, cinematics, and animations thanks to an assortment of new motion capture used specifically for the remake. What's better still is that the primary cast of Halo: Combat Evolved re-recorded new performances for Halo: Campaign Evolved, which includes Steve Downes as Master Chief and Beckie King as Cortana.
Destructible and Hijackable Vehicles
Bring Chaos to the Covenant By Stealing Their Vehicles, Including Wraiths!
Vehicles receive further overhauls in Halo: Campaign Evolved, as players can now jump into Warthogs that have more than two seats so that they can ride around and flip them over with friends. However, it doesn't end there. Players can now hijack enemy rides and pilot Wraiths, allowing them to create a sandbox of chaos against the Covenant. These vehicles can be destroyed, hijacked, and used to have an immense amount of fun.
An Expanded Arsenal of Incredible Weapons
Classic Weapons That Have Never Featured in the 2001 Classic
The classic combat feel returns in Halo: Campaign Evolved, except players can expect things to be sharper than ever with deeper precision and refined gameplay thanks to Unreal Engine 5. However, game feel aside, players might want to know what weapons will be added. 9 additional weapons from the Halo Universe will feature in Halo: Campaign Evolved, including the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle, but the remainder are yet to be seen. However, players shouldn't expect the return of dual-wielding from Halo 2.
Replayability: Thanks to Skulls
Campaign Replayability Comes from Gameplay-Modifying Skulls
Skulls were always an exciting way to challenge your abilities as you venture into familiar missions with unfamiliar modifiers and unpredictable pathways that all lead to death, either for a Spartan or for the Covenant. Halo: Campaign Evolved ensures replayability in its campaign with the addition of Skulls, which can be used to add deeper challenge through modifiers to the game's design, along with randomization of weapons, enemies, and environments.
