A reputable insider has suggested that the rumored Halo: Combat Evolved remake could include a sprint feature. Neither the original Halo: Combat Evolved nor its first remaster in 2011 featured sprint, which could make its inclusion this time around controversial with some fans.

It's worth remembering that the existence of a new Halo: Combat Evolved remake has yet to be confirmed by Halo Studios. Rumblings that a Halo: Combat Evolved remake was in development began to surface in mid 2024. The noise was only amplified when Halo Studios announced its move to Unreal Engine 5 with a tech showcase featuring Master Chief in his Halo: Combat Evolved armor, in an environment that looked like it was pulled straight from the original game. Despite all this, Halo Studios has never commented on the project.

Halo: Combat Evolved Remake Rumored to Have Sprint Feature

Over the last few months, reputable Halo insider Rebs Gaming has delivered numerous alleged updates on the Halo: Combat Evolved remake. In his latest video, he claims that a source from a development support studio has told him that "the current build being tested has sprinting," a feature that was not part of the original game. Sprint has always divided the Halo community - it first appeared as an Armor Ability in 2010's Halo: Reach, and has been present in every mainline release since.

While the ability to sprint is a staple feature of most FPS series, it has always felt like a more controversial addition to Halo. Many players who fell in love with the earlier Halo games feel that the series was at its best when it featured more slow-paced gameplay, although some accept that it's a necessary inclusion for the franchise to keep up in the modern era of FPS games. If Rebs Gaming is correct and Halo Studios does add sprint to Halo: Combat Evolved, it's clear that it would divide opinion among the fanbase.

Rebs Gaming also had a few smaller details to share about the rumored Halo: Combat Evolved remake, claiming that it uses a hybrid engine of Unreal Engine 5 and a modified version of Halo: Reach's Blam Engine. This is similar to how Oblivion Remastered functioned under the hood, with both engines running simultaneously. He also says that there "will be level design changes," highlighting Halo: Combat Evolved's infamous The Library mission as one that will receive improvements. As with all rumors, this should be taken with a pinch of salt until Halo Studios confirms one way or the other.
